So, I'm studying film. But I'm too broke to go to an incredibly expensive school down south to study it professionally.
Instead, my set up is pretty simple: freshly made apple cinnamon tea, vanilla incense burning in the background, my laptop, whichever movie I choose, and a pen and a cute notebook that looks like blue sky and clouds.
I put a movie on, find a new page in the notebook, and I write what I see. Small things I notice that I like, the way a person stands or looks, the tone of their voice when they speak, numbers or colours or anything I think would be significant. Sometimes, I include a swear counter, if the movie has profanity enough to call for it.
It's impractical, and probably not very professional. But it's a way I enjoy, and I feel happy with it. If there's a certain thing I find about the movie, something small, I subconsciously add it to my own stories; kind of a tip of the hat to where I found it.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a film study class I have to get on to. I wonder what movie it'll be today.
