Glancing around at my room, and I begin to wonder what it would all look like in a forever house of my own. It's a weird thought, but one I've been thinking about on and off since I was ten.

Naturally, I'd have to have an entirely separate room for my books. A library, with enough natural light to read by, but not too much that the sun would damage the books themselves. I have two bookshelves already, but they seem to be shrinking when compared to the books that overflow them. So, maybe I'd have to get two more new shelves – that would hold me over a while, anyhow. And, if the library had the space, I'd set up a desk in the corner, and maybe a nice arm chair in the centre. Sort of like a study or office, and then a nice comfortable place for reading and relaxing.

Then, the kitchen. I'm not too picky when it comes to design, so maybe some nice wooden cabinets and drawers, simple cutlery, and nice smooth countertops. I'd probably make everything lighter in colour, because lighter colours are happier colours: a light blue, or even a soft yellow. Or just warm shades, making it feel inviting: warm hazels, oranges, cinnamon shades. Dining room would probably be the same sort of colour scheme, and I'd have a beautiful wooden dining room table, with sturdy chairs to match.

Pantry, maybe. I picture something pretty open, with space on the ceiling I could hang fresh herbs to dry, for two reasons: first, convenience. Second, aesthetic. It'll look cool. Shelves neatly organized. Maybe a pantry and a cold room all in one? Then I'd be able to store fruits and vegetables in there without them going bad. I'd store them in wooden bowls, and I'd of course check everything often and rotate things so they wouldn't go bad.

I picture hardwood floors, but also, carpet is nice, too. Maybe area rugs could work, then it's a happy medium.

A living room, with couches comfy enough to take a nap on. Maybe a TV and modern amenities, if I wanted to go that far. It would be nice, but again, not immediately mandatory.

A bathroom, obviously. Simple, not too overdone, not too much. Toilet, tub, sink. A tub with feet – I've seen those in movies before, with elegant swirls. That would be cool.

A laundry room in the back would be nice. It would probably be soft blue, or seafoam.
Enough room to have an indoor clothesline in the winter, then I'd have an outdoor clothesline in the summer. I'd always wanted one. I just like the idea of clothes soaking in the warmth of summer.

Lastly, a bedroom. Nothing too much, nothing that takes up too much space. Just enough for a bed, and an end table, maybe. And dresser and small closet. Nothing too much. I'd rather have a bigger library than a bigger closet.

My house would be out in the country, where I can't hear traffic or city sounds. I'd have a garden in the back, wildflowers in my front yard, growing as though intentional. Car parked beside the house, because I need my car – if I could live in a world where I wouldn't need to drive places, then I'd prefer not to have one. Gravel driveway, most likely, with maybe a cute wooden fence and gate. Mailbox at the end of the driveway, but that would be the only indication a house lived there. My driveway would be long enough, and trees would be big enough, to hide the house from the road's view. Like my own little patch of heaven.

That's what my forever home feels like. One day, I hope I can achieve that. Someday soon, I hope.
