"Lullaby, you've been watching me the entirety of supper," Thorin said then; his voice held worry and concern, plain as day.

She blinked; her eyes instantly found the grassy earth they sat on. "Sorry, Thorin. I must have been... lost in my thoughts. I didn't mean to be looking at you; I apologize if I've made you uncomfortable."

Thorin took her hands in his, causing her to look at him again; she saw his oceanic blue eyes, waves hitting against broken stones in a storm. Her heart ached suddenly.

"You haven't," he answered softly. "The way you have been looking at me.... Lullaby, it's like you are afraid I'm going to disappear and never return."

She could feel tears building up behind her eyes. It was what she was afraid to hear: her truest thoughts and deepest fears. "Thorin...."

He pulled her against him, against his chest; holding her against his heart, he whispered, "Even if I were to vanish, this very moment, I will never be truly gone."

She closed her eyes in an attempt to stop her tears; she focused on the sound of his heart, beating against her ears. "I don't want you to leave. Promise me, you'll never leave, Thorin...." Her voice broke.

His arms tightened around her. "I promise," he whispered.
