Mary's POV:
I'm standing on the roof top, fidgeting. I've brought Luke to my Thinking Spot. I wanted to talk to him up here, a place that's special to me.
"Mary," Luke says, his panic a little obvious "What's going on?"
"Luke, I need to talk to you, seriously."
I walk over to a bench, him following me.
"Okay, shoot."
I look up at the sky, the color of Luke's eyes. Then I look over to the right an see blank gray. Its extremely humid today, so humid I'm getting a little sweaty, so I push my bangs back in an attempt to cool down.
"Ok, so we need to both be on the same page regarding our.....relationship. I know you want us to be more than friends, and so do I. But, I just don't think you would want to be in a relationship with me. I've never been in one and you have so many better options."
I look back at Luke and see him staring at me, concentrating, almost as if he's trying to hang on to my every word.
"Mary, I just want you to know that I do want to be in a relationship with you. You're loyal, honest, and just...perfect."
"I think it's best," I say "If we become friends, maybe even best friends. And if the time comes, when we're both ready, we could become more than friends. Hell, we could be friends with benefits now."
He perks up a little.
"Benefits?"
"Yes, that's what I said."
"What kind of benefits?" He asks, wiggling his eyebrows
"Please, you know what I mean." I give him a little shove
"Hey!" He says while shoving me playfully
He starts giggling and I get up.
"Come on, its getting ready to rain." I say, pointing to the gray sky
Luke's POV:
Friends with benefits, that doesn't sound too bad. At least now Ashton won't get onto me every time I do so much as look at her.
"Shouldn't we explain everything to Ashton?" I ask
"Tomorrows Saturday, so we can explain everything to everyone."
We start to walk back to the door, shoving each other like a couple of kids. Then, I hear a loud clash of thunder, and it starts to rain.
"Shit!" She yells
I don't realize why until I see she wearing a white shirt.
"Here," I say "put this on."
I take off my jacket and hold it out.
"Your cloak awaits, madam."
"Why thank you, Sir Flat Hair."
I reach up and feel my hair, the quiff gone. This seems to amuse her, and she lets out a little giggle.
"We should go."
We walk to my car and I start lit
"Little dry outside, isn't it?" She says
I laugh a littlele and say, "You're too cute."
I drop her off at her house and turn to go home. But before I can pull away she runs back out.
"I almost took your jacket."
"Keep it, you look better in it anyway."
She smiles, then leans over the console from the passengers seat and kisses me, licking my lips, asking for access. I let her and than she pulls away a few minutes later.
"I love you, remember the benefits." She says, then smiles and runs back into the house.
The rain has started to come down in sheets. It's almost as if someone's above me with buckets of water. The roads becoming a little harder to see, so I turn the brightness of my lights up.
Everything seems to be just fine until all of a sudden, I feel a jolt and see a tree in front of me.
My first reaction is to grab my head to make sure its ok. I start to panic.
Who do I call? Mum? Mary? 911? I decide to call 911 first.
"911 what's your emergency?"
"I just crashed my car. I seem to be ok, but I still need help."
I tell them where I'm at and wait. I start to pray.
"God," I say out loud, "please don't let anything happen to me. I know I've not been the best person, but just imagine how crushed she'd be. I don't want that to happen to her."
Soon my head tilts back, and I slip into a daze.
*
I look around and see many solemn faces, everything is dark and gloomy. I see a large room. What's that smell? It smells like fake flowers and old lady perfume.
At the front of the room, I see Calum, Michael and Ashton talking. Then I see Mary walk in, dressed in all black. Her eyes are red and she has a wad of tissues in her hand.
I then see a long box, as I get closer, I realize its a coffin, and I see someone familiar inside it.
He's a very young, handsome man. His acne has been covered up by make up, even though mum and Mary probably didn't want it to be. His curly, blonde hair is quiffed, and his blue eyes are closed, never to open again. The lip ring that he'd gotten only a while ago stands out against his cold pale skin.
It's me, I'm dead.
*
"Luke?" I hear a soft voice say "Luuukee."
I open my eyes and see my mum.
"Mum?"
"It's ok, you just had a little jolt. Nothing too serious, and your cars fine."
"Mary." is all I can say
"I called her as soon as I found out, she's out in the waiting room. Want me to go get her?"
I nod.
Mum leaves and then comes back with her.
"Come here, you."
She walks over to the bed and I pull her into a tight hug.
"At first, I thought I'd lost you."
"Nope,I'm right here." I say
The doctor comes in and Mary pulls away, then wipes her eyes.
"Well, Luke, you're one lucky guy. You didn't break a single bone, you'll just be a little sore. You're good to go, and you can go on about your daily life."
I get up and automatically feel a tight pulling in my back. I walk it off and mum and I drive Mary home.
"See you tomorrow. What time do you want us to come up?"
"Anytime is fine, thanks again Liz."
We watch and make sure she gets into the house alright, then drive home.
