Mary's POV
Luke's mom came home and called him downstairs. Good thing too, because he was starting to act weird. I follow him downstairs into the kitchen. When I enter, I see a short blond woman putting up groceries.
"Luke could you-" she turns around "well who is this?"
"Um, mum this is Mary, Ashton's sister. Mary, this is my mum."
"Nice to meet you Mrs. Hemmings." I say
"Please, sweetie, call me Liz." she says.
"Mum, I invited her over today, I hope it was ok." he says.
"Yeah it's ok. Will you be staying for dinner?"
"I guess, if you'll have me." I say.
"We'd be happy to have you." Luke says
I see Liz look at him. "Mary, can Luke and I have a moment alone?"
"Sure." I say
"The living room's to the left." I hear Luke say.
Luke's POV:
My mom just sent Mary out of the kitchen, so I'm a little worried. She starts preparing dinner.
"Would you mind telling me exactly why you invited her over?"
"I don't know," I say "I just wanted to I guess." I say
"Are you sure it has nothing to do with the fact that she's a girl?"
"Mum, I'm very aware of the fact that she's a girl, and I just thought she would like to hang out or something."
"Well, that was very nice of you. She's a very pretty girl, and she seems nice, unlike that Kaitlin."
My mom never liked Kaitlin much, so she'll probably be happy I broke up with her.
"About that," I say "I broke up with her today."
"Really?"
I nod my head
"Well good, she was always dragging you down and she was always rude." she says.
"I'm gonna go hang out with Mary." I say
Mary's POV:
Luke's talk with his mom wasn't very long, five minutes later he walked into the living room.
"Sorry about that, she needed to talk to me. Do you want to watch a movie or something?"
"Um, sure." I say
He sits down next to me on the couch.
"What do you wanna watch?" he asks me
"It doesn't matter, you can choose." I say
He ends up choosing some movie I've never heard of. We're about halfway through it went Mrs. Hemmings- I mean Liz tells us dinner is ready.
We walk into the dining room and I see there's only three places set at the table.
"Why are there only three?" Luke asks his mom
"Oh your dad had to work late."says his mom
We eat in silence until Liz starts talking.
"So Mary, do you happen to have a boyfriend?"
"Mom." Luke says
"What? I'm just curious!"
"No ma'am I don't." I say
"I don't see why you don't, you're such a lovely girl."
"Thank you." I say
"You know Luke just broke up with his girl-"
"Mom!"
"Sorry, sorry. I'll stop." she says laughing
We finish dinner and Luke asks if I want to go upstairs. We do, and I'm afraid he'll act weird again.
Luke's POV:
After dinner, I wanted to get Mary and me away from my mom before she suggested that we date or something.
I walk into my room and sit on my bed, Mary sits down next to me.
"I'm really sorry about that." I say
"It's fine. I like your mom."
"She likes you too, and your brother."
"Yeah, about him. Why did you invite me over instead of him?"
"I don't know, I just wanted to get to know you."
"Oh ok. It's getting pretty late, I should go home." she says
"No don't! I mean, um, it's Friday, can't you stay a little longer?"
"Um, I guess let me call my mom."
She calls her mom and, to my surprise, she's fine with it. I turn on the television.
"How about we watch a movie that's actually worth watching?" I say
"Okay."
For some reason I choose a scary movie.
"Do you mind if we turn off the lights?" she asks
"Um, sure." I say, I'm actually scared of the dark, but the light from the television makes it a little better.
Mary's POV:
I sit next to Luke on his bed watching the movie. It's kind of scary, so whenever a scary part happens I jump a little and hug him. He doesn't seem to mind. Eventually, he puts his arm around me, and I lay against him, tired from a long day. My eyes start to feel heavy and burn from being tired. I start to blink so I can stay awake, but soon it becomes hard to keep my eyes open. I'm just about to fall asleep when I hear Luke whisper "I love you so much." and I feel him plant a kiss on my forehead.
