The next two weeks passed in a blur, Mira and I worked diligently on accentuating and perfecting my wedding dress. All of my customers knew that I had put commissions on hold, and was refusing dream walking as I prepared. Dolores even seemed to be on edge as she watched us stitch and add to the gown.
Her involuntary hum came more often as she watched us. She knew that Bruno hadn't been over to visit because of the dress standing proudly in my workroom. She seemed to really notice as the days drew nearer.
About three days before the wedding Mirabel and I finished the final details. The hourglasses and shining swirls of beads and metallic threads shined in the light that came through my window.
"Tio Bruno is gonna think it's so pretty." She said proudly. The four year old put her hands on her hips as she looked at the dress.
"Your Tio Bruno is gonna be so proud of you, Mirabel. I think this is the best work you've done yet." I smiled at her and her eyes lit up with pride.
"Really?!" She asked.
"Oh he is going to give you the biggest hug for helping me." I smiled at her and dragged her into a hug of my own.
"Tia!" Mirabel giggled as I peppered her face with kisses.
"You did an amazing job, I cannot wait to wear the dress."
Dolores walked in as Mirabel and I continued to proudly gaze at out work.
"Tia, is it done?" She asked in awe, joining us in just staring at the dress.
"It is, what do you think Dolores?"
"It's so pretty! I can't believe Mira did the hourglasses!" She said and lightly traced an hourglass that was on the skirt.
"Well," I said looking at Dolores. "That isn't the only thing Mira and I have been working on."
"It's not?" Dolores asked confused. Mirabel and I gave each other a smile as I grabbed a box from under my worktable and handed it to Dolores.
"We wanted to surprise you, prima!" Mirabel said excitedly.
I silently thanked Bruno for his gift of foresight as Dolores opened up the box to find a set of ear muffs decorated with the silver swirls of beads that matched my dress. Normally I'd pair the red she wore with gold, but I thought it would be nice to have her match with myself and Bruno on our wedding day.
"So these are for if you get too overwhelmed at the wedding. There's one more thing in there as well..." I led my voice, and Dolores' eyes lit up as she brought out a necklace chain with a small green vial of beads as a pendant.
"It's so pretty! Tia! Gracias!" She said and hugged me.
"I can't have my sobrina favorita overwhelmed and not having a good time at my wedding." I told her as she put on the necklace and turned I so she could hear the glass beads shift.
"Didn't you use tio's visions for the bottle?" Mira asked.
"Oh, yes, your Tio Bruno gave me some of his old inconsequential visions and let me take them to the glassblower to color the vial. So it's a little bit of me, and a little bit of him."
"It's made from tio's vision glass?!" Dolores whispered reverently.
"He loves you a whole bunch and also wanted you to be comfortable, Dolores."
"This is the coolest gift." She smiled. "Oh! I actually was coming to get you because it's almost time for lunch and Tio Bruno wants to see you."
"He's outside isn't he?" I laughed and Dolores nodded.
