As we neared the end of the pregnancy Bruno and I pulled everyone together to discuss names.

"So," I said looking at everyone, "tonight I want to hear the names mi sobrinos want for the kids. We're going to go around the room and each of you need to give us one girls name and one boys name. Your tio is going to write them down and we are going to pick from those."

All the kids nodded excitedly. Antonio raised his hand just as quickly as Isa, Mira, and Milo.

"I want to go first!' He told us, the others whose hands shot up also had the same sentiment, but yielded to the youngest.

"Alright, Tonito, what names do you like?" I asked him gently.

"Daniela for a girl, Oscar for a boy!" Tonito said with a smile. "Ramona in my dreams last night asked you to name a baby after her, but she won't be mad if you don't."

I chuckled and Bruno looked confused. "Ramona is a jaguar who really likes me, amor." I said with a smile as he wrote down the names.

"Mira, what are your thoughts?"

"Alba for a girl, it's only a letter off from abuela's name and I know you two are so sentimental." Bruno chuckled as Mira continued, "and Jorge." Mirabel let out a giggle. "He can make the spackle."

Bruno and I looked at each other and laughed. "Who knew all those years ago my joke would become so popular." I told Bruno.

"Your tia came up with the spackle idea." He said through laughs. "But thank you, Mira."

I looked at Camilo who gave me a wide smile. "Lucero, we could call her Luz." Camilo looked at me. "Because you've been the guiding light in our lives, tia, and you deserve a hija named for you. And I hate to say it but Hernando is a great boys name." He gave a grin to Mirabel. The two of them shared a mischievous look causing Bruno and I to shake our heads.

Luisa was the next to offer up names, "I think Sofia and Felipe would be really cute names!" She told us with a big smile. I gave her a grin back and a nod.

Dolores let out a hum and looked at her bead jar. "Esmerelda and Luka."

"I was going to say Esmerelda!" Isabela said before thinking for a second. "But I'm going to have to second Camilo's. Lucero is such a pretty name, and he's right. You have been our guiding light, tia. For a boys name I'd say Leonardo."

"Put a check mark next to Esmerelda and Lucero, Brunito seems those are popular choices." I said to Bruno and he nodded.

That night, after the conversation died down Bruno and I really talked about which names we liked best. Putting them down on paper we had six names to draw from in order of which we preferred. Alba, Lucero, and Esmerelda were the girls names, Pedro, Oscar, and Felipe for the boys names.

With names out of the way, Bruno and I focused on the nursery. Casita had rebuilt one for us next to our room and at all hours of the day someone was in it. Selena had made us a ton of baby clothes, and between her making baby blankets and the fact that she recruited Mirabel for embroidery on said baby blankets, we were nearly set.

Alma surprised us one day, after Bruno and I fell into our children's dreams. We had crashed on the couch just like the day we had realized we loved each other.

"I want to show you both something in the nursery." She had told us both, looking at us with such warmth.

Bruno put an arm around my waist, guiding me upstairs to the nursery. It had become habit for him to do that. It was a way to hold onto me to prevent me from falling if the dreams came suddenly upon me. Years ago I would have even bristled at the fact that Alma didn't stray too far in front of me. She hardly strayed very far from me in general as the pregnancy progressed. Now I knew it was because she cared, and that was what was important.
