I walked into the kitchen with a smile. Bruno and Julieta were talking quietly as Augustin still stood with them. As I entered Bruno noticed my puffy eyes and quickly came to my side.
"What did she say?" He asked, his eyes searching mine. I brought forth my feelings of love for him and pulled him into a hug.
My face buried in his neck, I spoke. "She gave us her blessing."
He could tell that I had more to say, "But?"
"I have to fully become a Madrigal, which means I have to use my gift."
Julieta stopped what she was mixing, and Bruno went rigid in my arms. I looked over Bruno's shoulder at her and gently tried to shake my head.
"Isn't that a big compromise for you?" She asked.
Bruno pulled back and held my face in his hands. "You're scared of using your gift though."
"I'm more scared of not having you in my life." I said, because after the conversation with Alma, it was the truth. I don't know if my eyes or my voice betrayed me, but Bruno turned to Julieta.
"We will be back down, tell Pepa and Felix if you want, but we have to go talk." He told them then led me up to his room once more.
Once the door closed, he rubbed his face and turned to me. "You don't have to sacrifice this for me."
I wanted so badly to tell him in that moment the truth, but my stomach clenched at the thought. "It is ok." I gave him a smile that I knew didn't reach my eyes. "I would trade anything for five minutes with you, but for the rest of our lifetimes? I could give up on not using my gift."
"I don't want you to make a decision like that."
"It was what Alma and I came up with, she doesn't care for me much and it was a compromise I was willing to make." I said both trying to convince him and myself. I placed my hand on his chest and he looked at me.
"(Y/n)."
"Bruno, I haven't had a home or a family in a long time. Somehow you have brought out the best in me, and both of us are becoming stronger by the day." Putting his face in my hands I put our foreheads against each other's. "I love you, I love your family, and that is such a blessing. You are a blessing."
Bruno brought his head up and kissed my forehead. "You're the gift I was meant to have." He muttered.
I felt guilty, but deep inside the spark of love and hope chased my insecurity away. Thinking for a second I came up with an idea. "That's it!" I exclaimed, "I want everyone to feel like they're a blessing on our wedding day."
"How so?" He asked as I grinned at him.
"I don't know quite how I want to do it, but Pepa should make it rain when we get married."
"Well, she might actually enjoy that." Bruno said with a chuckle. "I fucked her wedding day up by saying it was going to rain, and I think sometimes she has a grudge still about it."
"Also, I think we should also hire someone to cook instead of Julieta. She needs a break." I smiled. "I know your madre won't like it, but we will."
He hummed in agreement. And I quickly kissed him, and grabbed his hand. "And I want you to be happy every day for the rest of our lives."
He grinned and pulled me to his chest. "Mi vida, I will be with you by my side." He leaned down and gently kissed me, his stubble rough against my skin and his lips as soft as a flower petal. I leaned into the kiss, only to jump as his door swung open quickly.
