Over three weeks after moving into Casita once more I began to feel off. It wasn't that people weren't communicating, or that something was going on between Bruno and myself, but rather my body didn't feel normal. The runny nose was nearly gone, but something else just felt not quite right. I kept brushing it off as being nervous about being back in Casita. Two years with everyone cramped in my house was my new norm, and having everyone so spread out, in their own rooms was odd. That wasn't including my worried feelings about Bruno and his gift that we had discussed many times.
For a few days I felt nauseous as I woke up. Thankfully it would pass, Bruno rubbing gentle circles on my back until I felt well enough to get up. Every time I told him about it he would look at me worried, running off to get an arepa from Julieta. Every time it didn't work. He kept looking at me with such anxiety. Luckily on the fourth day of feeling sick to my stomach, I wasn't in danger of not being well enough to get up. Bruno looked relieved but still inspected my every move with caution.
"I'm fine, Bruno." I said as I buttoned his shirt. "All of this must have been some weird bug. I'm going to tell Julie about it, can't have all of Encanto bugging her for arepas." I gently kissed him and he nodded.
I walked out of our room, thankful for not having to go down a dark stairwell anymore. I made my way downstairs, and as I smelled the arepas and other foods I knew I was famished. Quickening my step I rushed into the kitchen, smiling at Julie.
"Buenos dias, Julieta." I said grabbing three arepas from the plate next to her.
"Ay, (Y/n)." She said in joking exasperation. "You're as bad as Camilo and Bruno, save some room for breakfast. How are you feeling?"
"Better for sure. I have to go check up on Dolores and her commission for the Guzmans. I cannot have her mess up her relationship with Señora Guzman. Not when she is head over heels for her son." I said with a shrug. Finishing the first arepa in record time, Julie opened the lid on the eggs she was making. The smell hit me, and my stomach rolled.
"Julie. I would check the eggs, they smell like they aren't any good." I said trying to be helpful. Julieta eyed me with that motherly stare that hadn't left me since moving back into Casita. She smelled the eggs then looked at the arepas and then to my face.
"They smell fine to me." She said looking at me, as if she were trying to hint at something.
"Huh, must be the bug I caught." I said with a shrug. "I hate that your arepas haven't helped much with it."
"My arepas haven't-" She muttered and I bid her goodbye, headed towards town to pick up some things and check on Dolores. As I did I missed the wide eyed expression on Julieta's face, and the fact that the second I left Casita, she ran to mine and Bruno's room.
Eating the arepas as I walked, I smiled at my sobrinos. Camilo was sitting painting me back into the Madrigal family portrait and I stopped and admired his work. He gave me a smile, and I smudged some paint off of his cheek.
"You should fix your Tio Bruno's expression as well. He looks too frightening like that." I said offhandedly and Camilo agreed.
"I think tio likes the drama though."
"He would." I gave an exaggerated sigh, smiling at Camilo. "But keep up the good work, hijo. I'm proud of you."
Camilo sat up a bit straighter and smiled proudly at me. "Gracias, tia."
Ruffling his curls I made my rounds, my eyes drifting to some starfruit that made my mouth water. Quickly purchasing a few I continued on my way. I stopped at a few places, perusing before making my way to what was once my house, but now was our workshop.
