"Besides, I know you don't like rich people."

December 2024

Cecilia sighed from her spot next to Kate as they stood around a very large room for her mother's holiday party. Cecilia had pulled on a deep burgundy suit to match her friend's black one, her dark hair pulled into a bun.

"This is bullshit," Kate muttered as both their eyes fell on Elanor Bishop who was giggling beside her new boyfriend that Kate had apparently just met today.

"Excuse me dear, would you..." Both of their eyes snapped over to an older man gesturing to his empty cup, Kate gave him a friendly smile while Cecilia shot him a nasty glare.

"Sorry, I'm not a waitress."

"You're the little Bishop girl." Cecilia tuned out of the conversation since it was clear she didn't need to be a part of it, that was of course until she heard the man say something about Kate's suit.

"I'd appreciate it if you wear something a little more lady-like for the wedding, so we won't be competing." The man stated causing Cecilia to clench her jaw at his backhanded compliment.

"What wedding?" Kate questioned in confusion, her eyebrows knitting together.

"You don't know? Eleanor and Jack. Oh! Those secretive little love birds!" Armand chuckled not picking up on the matching expressions the two girls wore, Cecilia reached out and squeezed her friend's arm as she knew she was going to be pissed.

"Believe me, I've done everything in my power to talk him out of it. When he gets something set in that little mind of his, he can be quite determined." The man added ignoring Cecilia's blatant and not at all discreet glaring.

"Oh," Kate muttered out softly as her eyes drifted back over to her seemingly happy mother.

"Seems like he won the jackpot," The man continued making Cecilia speak up for the first time drawing his attention.

"You think so?"

"I'm not so sure," Armand let out a loud laugh making Cecilia scoff and share a distasteful look with Kate who just looked uncomfortable.

Cecilia's eyes dropped down to a young boy in a suit who started whining at the older man instantly making her cringe and remember why she didn't like kids.

"Armand, I wanna go home. I'm bored."

"That's no way to talk, Armand. That's not the way you were brought up. Come and say hello to Miss Bishop and her friend..."
