"How do you explain the way your face looks?"December 2024
Cecilia woke up around noon the next day curled up on her father's mattress. She stretched her arms and legs only to let out a deep groan at how much pain that caused. That's when her memory started to catch up with her, Wilson Fisk's laughing face seared into her mind as he called her a child. The eyes of the man she killed as the life slowly drained from his body. Her father's words.
A mistake. Good people make mistakes.
Cecilia had wanted to believe that, and a part of her did. There was just a bigger part of her that was disgusted with herself and the things that she had done. She just knew that she was going to try and rectify that mistake for the rest of her life by trying to keep people safe.
The sound of her phone ringing made her sigh as it was in the living room and she was at peace on the silk sheets of her father's bed. It slowly stopped ringing but the apartment echoed with Matt's phone moments later. She could hear him chuckle before he grabbed the phone and accepted the call.
"Good Morning Matt!" Cecilia heard Kate beam from the other end making her groan once again.
"Good morning Kate, did you have a good Christmas?" Her father asked as he held the FaceTime call in front of his face even if he couldn't see her.
"We did! I was just calling to see how your guys' went, I wanted to call last night but it got late out of nowhere," Kate laughed.
Cecilia slowly crawled out of bed but she kept a firm grip on the top blanket and wrapped it around her shoulders like a cape.
"Well Cecilia just woke up I uh—I don't know how to flip this thing," Matt chuckled awkwardly as his eyebrows furrowed and he pulled the phone incredibly close to his face as if that would help him figure it out. Kate giggled shamelessly on the other end of the call making him pull it away with a scowl.
"Don't laugh at me Bishop. Here take this she's mean," Matt stated as he tossed the phone to his daughter who barely caught it before holding it up to her face. At the sight of Cecilia's insanely messy hair, red blotchy and puffy face, and the bags under her eyes Kate let out a startled gasp.
"Oh my, you look great!" Kate lied as Cecilia collapsed onto the leather couch and her father went back to doing dishes.
"Gee thanks," She replied dryly before chuckling and pulling her legs up under her. "Where's my dog?"
Kate scowled before flipping the camera and showing Lucky curled up by the fire place. Cecilia couldn't help but swoon at the sight of him, but when he heard her voice he perked up and bounded over to Kate where he started whining.
