"New Jersey?"

February 2025

"I don't know, I think the prequels are pretty good," Cecilia commented as she lifted her coffee mug to her lips and took a sip of the scorching liquid. The young man across from her who had poured the coffee couldn't help but chuckle and shake his head.

"It's just because they were filmed later, the CGI is better," Peter rebutted as he continued clicking through photos on his laptop. He knew Karen wanted a specific look for her newspaper so everything had to be perfect.

The pair were seated in the Nelson and Murdock law offices, Cecilia at her desk with Peter across from it. Each of them was busy doing work but they enjoyed the company regardless, especially since both Foggy and Matt had been hung up on phone calls all morning.

"Have you heard of this...Avenger Con?" Cecilia asked with slight distaste as she saw the advertisement pop up on her computer screen. Peter's head snapped up from his laptop much quicker than Cecilia had been expecting as he leaned forward to peer at her screen.

She chuckled at his childlike curiosity and turned her monitor so he could see it better. Cecilia looked away from the screen and watched as Peter's eyes scanned the screen, the blue light reflecting in the warm chocolate pools as they flickered over the words.

"New Jersey?" Peter scoffed in disgust as he sat back down in his chair and shook his head back and forth. Cecilia let out a loud string of laughter at his tone and turned the monitor back towards her.

"The only thing more embarrassing than the fact there's an Avenger Con is the fact it's in New Jersey," She stated as she clicked out of the ad and continued her research on Curtis Connors.

"You--you think it's embarrassing? Isn't it to like honor them?" Peter asked as he began bouncing his leg under the desk. Cecilia figured that this was probably something that he and whomever he started that lego death star with would have liked to go to. And because of that she instantly felt guilty due to her bitchy attitude.

"I think we should honor the sacrifices they made, but I don't think teenagers dressing up like the slutty version of their favorite superhero is doing that. Didn't Tony Stark have a kid? Clint has kids, we should do something for them and their families," Cecilia answered truthfully. Peter glanced up at her for a moment, and for some reason, Cecilia couldn't figure out the look in his eyes. For once she was struggling to read him and it made her head hurt.

While Cecilia thought he was irritated with her, it was actually the opposite. He was incredibly impressed, although that was nothing new when talking to her. His heart ached as he thought about Morgan at Tony's funeral, he knew exactly how she had felt because he had lost everyone. He was just thankful that she still had people in her life that cared about her.

"I didn't know hawkeye had kids," Peter decided. And it was true, he had never met them, he had seen them once at Tony's funeral but he knew they were off the record, so how did she know about them?

Cecilia, who had realized her mistake cleared her throat and gave a small innocent shrug.

"Oh I don't know, he just seems like the family type doesn't he?" She questioned before turning her eyes back to her computer. If she had known the existence of Clint's children was a secret she would have kept her mouth shut, but what would Peter possibly do with that information?
