A/N: Robbery tw
You slam your car door as you stop at the grocery store before going home. You keep your head down and try to keep your anger at a simmer. No one told Bruce to break up with you. You weren't a couple, to begin with, but maybe you felt something when he pressed his body against yours or when you could barely think when he was fucking your brains out. Maybe you made up that it was the same on his side. Maybe... As you grab a little basket, you notice a younger man staring at you. You keep your head low, but you see him pull out his phone and snap a picture. Maybe you're paranoid. You go down the pasta aisle, grabbing some spaghetti and penne, but you're pretty sure he's following you.
You have a taser in your purse and Bruce's alarm in your pocket. As you reach the sauces, he approaches. "Your boyfriend tried to poison the mayor. That's fucked."
"What?" You regret reacting noticing someone else down the aisle giving you attention. "He left, and then everyone was getting sick. He knew. So you knew too." You frown, shaking your head. "No... I don't know what you're talking about at all." You hurry down the aisle while he continues to heckle you, following you. Your ears begin to ring as you feel the world switch on you. Were you that recognizable now? You decide to skip purchasing your pasta, leaving your basket. You spot as you're out that paper news works fast. You're front page, doe-eyed at Bruce as you were leaving.
As you get in your car, you see the man following you. "Holy shit." As you start your car, he hits the hood. "Blood's on your hands!"
"Leave me alone!" You don't know what to think besides that you need to get out of here. You hurry your car out, trying to get your bearings. What did Bruce know? You know you can't stay at home, but you don't know where you can stay. Well, you have an idea.
You're nervous being home. Your doorman walks you up, not liking the news and not believing it one bit. "Mr. Wayne was a very nice man when he came to pick you up. He gave me a 50 dollar tip. I don't think a man who tips when it's not necessary would try to bomb a charity event, ya know?" You nod. "He wouldn't. Just don't make no damn sense. How're you feeling?" You tell him quickly about your encounter at the grocery store. He mutters something about what the world has come to as you step out of the elevator. "If you need any help, just let me know." You're grateful for this support, but it does not soften your peaking anxiety. You wish Bruce is here to check for all the monsters. You doubt anyone could be here, but today is insane. You can't risk it more than you have.
You open your coat closet and pull out your suitcase, feeling your goosebumps throughout your body. You lug it to your room, thinking of what to pack before going to your closet and grabbing the first things your fingers touch. You hear a crash in your living room, glass falling to the floor.
No! No, no, no, no, no no!
Without thinking anything more, you drop to the floor. You crawl to your purse and pull out the alarm Bruce gives you, quickly sliding under your bed. You close your eyes as you press the button. You hear the voices; a man and a woman. "She's gotta be in here. Penguin said the sooner we get her, the better." Your breathing quickens, and you tap the button repeatedly. Their footsteps go to the kitchen and living room. "You sure you saw her?
"Yes. Her car is out there." You pray they can't find you, doubting the Gotham PD again. Their footsteps draw near as they check your bathroom. It's strange hearing them check your shower curtains when you didn't mind Bruce doing the same thing only a couple of days ago. You notice that time is moving so fast and so slow at the same time. You don't know how to explain it, but you try to stop your breathing and make sure you're hidden far underneath your bed. You don't have your phone as you left it in your purse on your bed. You're grateful since you don't know what you would have done had your phone vibrated in your hand, giving you away. The alarm glows a soft lemon glow but makes no noise. If you were ever in danger in Gotham, you always pictured it as a mugging on the street where there were other eyewitnesses, though you doubted they would step forward. You'd be upset and scared, but you could replace your bag and your other things. Being in a home invasion is much more terrifying. Tears prick your eyes, and you quickly blink them away. What does The Penguin want with you? You're not Bruce's girlfriend, and you're not involved with whatever crime they think you are unless he needs a scapegoat for what he did. Their steps come in your bedroom, and you still your thoughts, your heart.
