During lunch, Nathan saw a girl leave the cafe again. Also heading for the orphanage after. He followed immediately. "Hey! It's you right? You haven't told me your na—" Nathan stopped running when the girl turned around. She had blonde hair and eyes that could kill. She also had a shawl around her head.

"Dorothy!" Nathan turned around to see the girl he was expecting. For the first time, he saw her beautiful red locks. The girl named Dorothy sighed as she continued climbing the steps. "You're not supposed to be here." Said the redhead.

Nathan scratched the back of his head. Completely irritated. " I need help with something." The redhead walked past him but he grabbed her wrist. "GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME!"

"Atleast tell me your name-"

"Unhand me!"

Nathan surrendered. " Fine. Your name?"

"It's Veronica. Dumbass."

Nathan cheered up as he mentally said her name over and over again. " Can you help me with my investigation?"

Veronica gave him a poker face and said, " No." She turned on her heel and when she took a step, Nathan said something.

"Stuck up bitches." Veronica peered through her shoulder and glared at him. "What did you say?"

"Stuck up bitches?" Nathan smirked as he reached for his front pockets and took out a white box, pulled out a cig and lit it. "What?"

Veronica stormed off, not minding to answer his last statement. Nathan took a puff before looking back one last time and heading down to his car. Little did he know that at the entrance of the manor, Veronica was watching him walk away.

--

That night. . . On a long dining table in the manor sat 15 girls and boys. On the two ends of the table, Dr. James Marcus and Dr. William Birkin.

"CHILDREN of the orphanage! What a pleasant evening it is, eh?" All of the girls and boys clapped their hands to Dr. Marcus' statement.

"Any news about your recent trainings?" The Doctor asked. "You may all speak at once."

"I learned how to move things!"

"I broke my ankle when I woke up but I just twisted it further and it fixed by itself."

"My eye sight got better ever since!"

Dr. Birkin glanced at two specific people in the table who were silent despite the others around them blabbering about their achievements nonstop. Veronica saw his gaze and nudged Dorothy's left arm since they're sitting next to each other.

Dr. Birkin raised his right palm and everybody shushed. "How about you Miss Veronica?"

Veronica sat properly. "I've been reading a lot sir. I also tried practicing some new techniques."

"How are you feeling after those sessions?" Asked Dr. Marcus. "I believe it's all in the brain, correct?"

Veronica nodded. "I get a few headaches sometimes and my nose bleeds."

Suddenly, servants came in and took their food away and replaced it with dessert. Dorothy looked down at hers and it was just half of what the others have. She dragged her fork against the table cloth as she gritted her teeth.

"And you Miss Sands?" Dorothy quickly hid the fork and looked at Dr. Birkin. "Well, I've been working out a lot—"

"Working what out? Your powers or just your physique?"

Dorothy remained silent but her heart started beating rapidly against her chest. She can feel her eyes sting as if she's staring at freshly cut onions. Dorothy scanned each and everyone on the table and saw them whispering amongst themselves. She didn't notice that Veronica scooped some from her own bowl and poured it in hers. "Girl, you gotta eat. You love raspberries right?" Dorothy tilted her head to the side and saw Veronica smiling at her.

--

The next day, everyone was given a day off training. Veronica went down to the cafe much early and saw Nathan sitting on one of the tables, smoking and drinking. She smirked as she fixed her outfit. For the first time, Nathan saw her headjng towards him and not thr cafe counter. He almost choked on his saliva when she sat across him and crossed her arms over the table. Her eyes never left his. Feisty. Nathan thought. He downed his last glass and leaned back on his chair.

"What brings you here?" Asked Nathan. Veronica shrugged. "Is your investigation still ongoing?"

From then on, they would meet in that cafe and talk ahout life. Sometimes they sneak to see each other despite what time it is. It went on and on for a month.

--

"Can I ask you something?" Veronica turned to Nathan who's busy rowing the boat on the river. She nodded.

Nathan took deep breaths. "We've been meeting for almost a month now so. . . Veronica, will you be my girlfriend?"

Veronica widened her eyes. She can tell that Nathan is being sincere but there's something she haven't told him yet. " I don't- I-uh-I-"

" Really? After all this time Veronica?" There was a hint if disappointment in his tone that made her bite her lip due to nervousness. Nathan continued to row the boat, waiting for an answer until the boat turned around by itself. Heading for the grounds.

"What the— you're a bioweapon?" Veronica didn't answer and when the they've reached the docks, she stepped out first.

"I don't want to hurt you Nathan." While she backed away slowly, Nathan got off the boat and grabbed her right hand to pull her close. "I don't care whether you're one of those or not. It doesn't change a thing Veronica. You're still you and you mean everything to me."

"I'm dangerous Nathan!"

"Well I'm willing to go through all that danger if it means I can be with you!"

"We just can't!"

"Is something still holding you back?"

"You can't handle this Nathan."

"Are you underestimating me?"

"No!"

"THEN WHAT ARE YOU SO AFRAID OF?"

In the speed of light, Nathan was held up in teh air and he felt like someone's choking him but Veronica's just standing there. "I'm sorry." Veronica balled her fists and Nathan was thrown into the water with so much force.

--

Veronica cried nonstop inside her room while Nathan didn't come down for dinner. Natalie barged in and saw her brother sitting on his window sill with a cig between his lips. "Damn. Did someone die?"

"Get out of my room Nat."  Nathan sternly said.

"Get out of my room Nat." She mimicked him. Natalie sat beside him and leaned her head on his shoulder. "What's wrong? Your girlfriend cheated on you?"

Nathan shook his head. "It's nothing, I swear to God."

"Oh please, don't lie to me. Remember, we're just one year apart from each other."

Nathan looked at her with a smug look on his face. "So? What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means I KNOW what you're going through because our age gap's not too far. Look, even if I've never been in a relationship since birth, I can tell that you're having relationship problems."

Nathan didn't respond so Natalie stood up and walked to the door. "I don't think you'll ever tell me what's going on but all I ask is that you join us for dinner, big bro. Mom cooked your fave food by the way."
