As I wanted to rush out the grill Caroline vamp speeded to the door and blocked my way. "Where did you meet Damon?"
I smiled at her. "At a party okay? Enzo and I were new in America and went to a party to.. you know eat."

Damon came to my side. A serious expression adorning his face.

"I said enough."

Caroline crossed her arms and got out of my way.

"She still is a friend of Klaus!"

Okay- this Tyler guy started getting on my nerves. I turned to him with a provocative smirk on my lips. "Klaus is an angel." Tyler laughed sarcastically. "Death angel maybe!" He walked towards me, but when Enzo and Damon came to each of my sides he stopped.

"Don't even try lockwolf."

I smirked at my personal bodyguards and then looked at Tyler, who shook his head and left the grill in a rush. Soo dramatic. "Let's go home." Damon said and placed his hand on my shoulder. I followed Damon and Enzo out of the grill and we made our way to the Salvatore mansion.

When the sun dimmed and everyone slowly started to disappear in their rooms I got myself a glass of Bourbon and made my way to the porch of the Salvatore house. I sat down onto the little strps and just enjoyed the view by myself.

This year I would turn 141. Old huh? Even if I still looked like fresh twenties I was old. I had seen so many things, so many wars. Vampirism was truly a blessing and curse at once.

"Layla St. John, always looking at the stars."

I smiled as Damon sat down next to me, also with a Bourbon in his hand. "Damon Salvatore, always interrupting precious moments." Damon grinned at what I've just said and took a sip of his drink. "I've missed you." I turned to him and smiled slightly. "I missed you too." He sighed and turned the glass in his hand.

"I won't ask you why you waited so long to come back–"

My eyes met his icy blue ones.

"Because I know the answer."

I flushed the amber colored liquid down my throat and the burning track it left made me close my eyes for some time.

"I'm sorry Damon."

As I opened my eyes again I felt tears built up in them. I hated crying in front of others, no sorry, I hated crying. Salty water coming out of my eyes. It was just weird.

"No one blames you Odessa. No one."

Damon assured me, but I still couldn't convince myself. It was my fault. I made that decision with my humanity on and that's the worst. I knew what I was doing. I placed my head on Damons shoulder and closed my eyes again.

"I'm still sorry Damon. You're my best friend and I just ran away."

Damon leaned against my head. "I ran away too Layla. Sometimes there is nothing else you can do. Sometimes you just have to be selfish." I didn't know if he was right or not, but I definitely knew that I shouldn't been selfish that day..

...

The next morning arrived quicker than I expected. Damon and I spent the whole evening talking about the last few decades what we went through and who we've met. He told me about how he found true love in Elena and I genuinely was happy for him. Even if deep down in my heart, I never really got over him.

Jumping out of my bed I threw on some black pants, a black v-neck top and as usual my leather jacket. I got ready and headed downstairs where everyone was sitting in the living room.

Without any greetings I went to the kitchen and grabbed a glass and poured Bourbon into it.

"A bit early, don't you think?"

I glanced at Stefan who was leaning against the counter. "Never too early for Bourbon." Stefan let out a slight laughter before nodding. "Right." I took a sip and felt the burning liquid running down my throat. He went back to the living room and I followed him.

"So the party starts at 8!"

My eyes lid up. Did someone say party?
"Party? What party?" Bonnie rolled her eyes at me. "My birthday party." She sighed annoyed from me. "And you're not invited."
Scrunching my brows, I took a sip of my bourbon.

"Rude. I'm still gonna come Bonnie, got a great gift for you." I winked at her and finished my drink. Everyone may took that sarcastically but I meant that. I had a grimoire from an Bennett relative who lived in Britain. It belonged more to her than to me.

"No don't let her in."

Damon said and poured another shot of Bourbon into my glass.
"What? I thought you're best friends?"
Caroline asked with a bitchy smile on her lips, earning herself a smirk from Elena.
Bloody bitches.

"We are. She just wraps every guy around her finger without even compelling them."
Tyler and Matt looked at each other and then with a shameful face they lowered their heads. Yea two of my latest victims.

"No idea how she does it but it works with every idiot."

"Oh Damon it's no shame that you once were one of those idiots."
