Kai stopped the car in front of the Salvatore mansion and I quickly got out. I hated long car rides, so I stretched myself and massaged my temples.
I was craving blood like crazy.

"Hey do you think Damon will borrow me this car when we get back?"

Just as I wanted to answer him that Damon would rather kill his brother than borrow this car, someone else spoke up.

"He definitely will not you little weasel!"

My head shot to the man standing on the porch of the Salvatore house. Oh my god.
"Damon!" I ran up to him and fell into his arms. His familiar scent reached my nose and made me close my eye in relief.

"I can't believe you're actually—"

He pulled away from me just to place his lips on mine. Wow-! I instantly stepped back and looked in his  confused blue eyes.

"Damon wha–"

"Awkwaaard."

"Shut up!" - "Shut up!"

Damon and I yelled in perfect sync to silence Kai. "We'll talk about this later okay? First we gotta get out of here." He took my hand and tried tugging me into the woods, but I didn't move an inch.
"Layla! Move, we don't have any time left!" I looked at the sky and saw the eclipse starting.

"Right.."

My head turned to Kai, who watched my actions without any emotions adorning his face.
As Damon and I started walking towards the forest of Mystic Falls I saw Kai closing his eyes and lowering his head. With furrowed brows I looked at Damon, who was literally pulling me. I didn't even walk. It was all him.

I, again, stopped and made my best friend growl in anger. He turned back to me and studied my face, annoyed at my hesitation.

"What now Layla?"

My glance wandered to Kai. If the first person he ever opened up to would now leave him, he'd never get better and I, as this person, could never forgive myself for stabbing him in the back like that.

"You're forgetting Kai."

Damons throat escaped a loud scoff. "Yea! Cuz he is not going anywhere!" I ripped my hand out of Damons hand and caused him to stare at me like I was crazy. I'll admit. What I've done might be crazy but, I'm not gonna turn my back on Kai. I promised him that.

Kai walked up to me and stopped an inch behind me. "I'm not discussing this Layla!" Damon wanted to reach out for me but Kai stepped in front of me. "Neither am I Damon." He gave us a deathly glare.

All of sudden Damons voice was calm and at a normal tone. "You won't leave without me." Kai said and laid his arm over my shoulder. "Why? Because you flirted a little and Layla fell for your tricks?" My head shot to Damon and as I heard Kais shocked giggle I moved closer to Damon.

"Think you shouldn't have said that buddy."

My hand slapped against Damons cheek, which made him clench his whole jaw. "I fell for nothing but your intrigues character. Now get the fuck out of here before I do something I'm gonna regret." Damon let out a little laugh. "You're not gonna–"

I pushed Damon against the wall of his mansion using my magic. "Wow." Damon said as if he was the most disappointed person in this world. "You need that to get out of here, right?" He showed me the ascendant. What? How did he-? I quickly turned to Kai, who was as shocked as I was.

My eyes widened because I know what he was up to.
"You come or you'll die here Layla. Everyone's waiting for you back home!" I gulped and shook my head. "Do you even realize who you're sacrificing yourself for?! He's a–"

"Sociopath I know!"

"Then why do you defend him?"
As Damons anger suddenly rushed out of his face he frowned at us. No idea what kind of puzzle he did in his mind, but it seemed like he finally got to a solution.
"You two-"

He waved his pointing finger back and forth between me and Kai. "Waow.." I still didn't get what he meant but I decided to listen. "Never thought that Layla Odessa St. John would really fall for something this obvious." Kai wanted to walk up to Damon, but I pushed him back by his chest and did it myself.

"What are you talking about?"

Damons whole body tensed up as I got close to him. "You're really dumb enough to crush on this man child thing?!"

"I fell for you, what could be worse?"

My, so called, best friend gave me an vindictive smile, before smashing the ascendant we found in Portland to the ground. Kai and I, we both let out a shocked "NO!" but Damon didn't care at all.

"Are you coming with me?"

I looked at Damons reached out hand and then right into his eyes. A huge lump grew in my throat but it didn't prevent me from having the last word;

"I should've let you died in Augustine."

The next thing I knew is that the bright light hugged Damon and he was gone, probably forever.

I sank to the ground wanting to rip all the hair out of my scalp. A little tear escaped my eye when my brain started realizing what just happened and that I might be stuck here forever because I stayed loyal to Kai and stood up against the man I loved for so long.

"Hey uh- everything's alright?"

When Kai kneeled down to my side I quickly wiped the tears out of my face and nodded in a rush. "I got this." I smiled at him and started picking up the pieces of the ascendant. "Layla–" I continued nodding my head. "I'm gonna fix this." Tears streamed down my cheeks as I collected most of the pieces in my palm. Suddenly Kais hand laid onto mine and made me look directly into his eyes.

Shaking my head in rage I collected the broken ascendant in my palm. I smiled at him, ignoring the fact that my eyes were already burning from the salty liquid. I hated crying. But crying in front of people is something that I hated even more. "I'm gonna get us out of here–"

"Layla it's fine!"

"No it's not!"

The pieces in my hand fell back on the ground as I yelled at Kai. "This is my fault! I am going to fix this!" I, once more, collected all the little pieces and stormed into the mansion, leaving Kai alone outside..
