"You don't wanna go back, do you?"

I sighed and hid the ascendant in the glove compartment. Feeling Kais glare all over me I tried avoiding it. He was right, I didn't want to leave.
Why would I? No one cared about me anyway, no one missed me, plus I was excited to see the Niagara Falls!

"Odessa.."

He grabbed my chin and turned my head, so that I was forced to look him in the eyes. The moment our eyes met I knew that we had to go back.
Even if I was okay with staying here, I knew that he deserved better. Unlike me, he spent eighteen years here. Although he acted all cold and tough I always knew that he had a little hope hidden inside his chest, he even hid it from himself, but it was there.

Kai deserved to get the hell out of here. I couldn't think about what I wanted when he looked at me with those hope-filled, blue eyes.

"We're going home."

His lips curled into a bright smile, showing me his perfect teeth. "We're going home!" He yelled joyfully and turned the car back to Mystic Falls.
I faked a laugh and looked out the window.

Ironic, isn't it?

A couple months ago I would've done anything to get out of here, but now I would rather die than go back there. I wasn't ready. In front of Kai I played angry and full of hate towards everyone at home, but deep down I was hurt. I didn't even know what to do - or if I should do anything.
I didn't want to see neither Damon nor any of the rest, not even Enzo.

Kai recognized that I was peeling off the red polish from my nails and after almost six months together you get to know the other one, so he exactly knew how I was feeling.

"You're nervous."

I snapped back to reality and turned my head to the driver. "I'm not." Denying that was like the stupidest thing ever. "You're peeling— you always peel when you're nervous." I sighed and stopped playing with my nails.

"And you are way too annoying."

"Are you sure about that? Because last night you–"

I pinched his arm making him stop talking. "Ouch!"
"Oh come on that didn't even hurt!" Kai grinned at me before looking back to the road. "You're right, it didn't." Bloody idiot...

The next few hours passed quicker than I wanted them to. We were back in Mystic Falls and were all ready to make our way out of this place.
The only thing left was the eclipse, which should start in a few minutes.

We positioned ourselves properly. After I dropped some of Bonnies blood on the ascendant Kai took both of my hands and looked me in the eyes.
I was doing this for him, not for me.
He was trapped here for nearly two decades and deserved to finally live his life as a twenty two year old.

As the moon took its place over the sun I gulped and got ready for the spell.

"Phasmatos tribum invocio caveum miscero mundio."

Kai frowned because nothing happened. "Try again." He demanded and so I did. "Phasmatos tribum invocio caveum miscero mundio." I opened my eyes and studied my surroundings. Nothing had changed.
"Try again."

I, again, chanted but not bright light appeared. Kai got so mad that he let out a loud scream. "I knew it!" He yelled and kicked some dirt into the air.
"There is now way out of–"

Suddenly the ascendant clicked in my hand. My eyes widened and I quickly grabbed Kais hand. The next thing I felt was my nose bleeding and a warm light hugging both of us.

When I opened my eyes I was laying on the ground and Kai besides me. Fuck! Something went terribly wrong. I wiped the blood off my face and tried waking Kai up. I pulled him up and leaned him against a tree.

"Hey wake up.."

My voice sounded terrible. I had no power left and felt like I was going to pass out again. "Kai.. Come on." His mouth escaped a little growl. At least he was alive. I lightly slapped his cheeks to get him back and it worked. As his eyes flickered open I let out an relieved sigh.

He looked around and stared at me in amazement.
"Kai I'm not feeling well." He tried interrupting me by saying my name, but I had to tell him that I was not okay. "I'm fighting to not pass out–"

"Layla!"

"What? What Kai?! Don't you see that I ran out of power? I need blood!"

"It's snowing!"

"Kai I don't care if it's snowing! I'm about to die!"

He started laughing and shook his head.
"You did it!" Wha– As I looked around I realized that he was right. It was snowing – it was snowing!

"Oh my god.."

I mumbled under my breath and smiled at the Christmas lights, which were hung up all over the town. "Here.." Kai held his wrist up to my mouth, but I just furrowed my brows. "Drink. I don't want to lose you now that we're back." Aww. He said something cute for the first time!

I gently bit his wrist open and closed my eyes at the taste of his blood. After a while I stopped and pulled away. It was hard not to suck him out - but I managed to hold my blood lust back.

"What now?"

We both got up and viewed the town with relieved hearts.

"Let's get something to eat."
