- one year later -

I felt my phone buzzing in the back pocket of my black jeans, so I quickly placed the brown grocerie bags on the counter before getting on the phone.

"Helloo?"

"Hey it's me, are you at home?"

"Yea, where are you? I thought you were going to help me?"

Damon sighed a little.

"I know- I just have to help Stefan to go through a Caroline control crisis."

A soft giggle tumbled off of my lips. Caroline had let me in on her problem with Stefan. It wasn't that serious, rather funny, but hey- They were getting married in a year and he still didn't help her chose the colour of the cakes fondat.

"Alright then mr. best man, but you owe me a movie night."

"Only if I get choose the movie- I swear to god if I have to see Zac Efron running after a girl a again, I'm gonna find and kill him myself."

I laughed at Damons description of my recent obsession with love movies and agreed.

"Okay, I'll get everything ready for tonight."

After a short goodbye we hung up and I started putting the grocieries into the fridge and the cabinets. You might ask yourself if there was something going on between Damon and I, but no. That was not the case.

When I turned my humanity back on last year, it was a hell of a ride to get over all of the things I had done. Since I couldn't look at any of my friends considering how much I made them suffer, I left town for a while. I just had to get away from Mystic Falls, from the memories.. from Kai.

I had to promise Enzo to return though, so here I was. I came back about three months ago and had long talks with each of my friends, especially with Damon. I told him that I was sorry about Elena, but there wasn't anything he could do. In my rage I told Kai to make the spell proof to any try of sabotage, so if anyone would ever try to break the spell- Bonnie and Elena would die, immediately.

It took them some time to process and forgive, but eventually they did. Everything started to go back to normal and I was even thinking about going to college now. I mean there wasn't anything left to do, right? We had no struggles with werewolves, witches or whatsoever, everyone was at peace now, so why wouldn't I be?

The groceries were all stocked up now and I walked into my room to change my outfit. I changed into a loose white dress to get rid of my tight top. Slipping into a pair of white covers, smiling at how much I had change in just one year.

Just as I wanted to close my wardrobe a grey and washed out shirt dangling on a hook caught my eye. My hand reached for the soft fabric and as soon as I touched it, I knew who it belonged to. Shaking my head I closed the door and inhaled a deep breath. I wasn't going to fold- Not now that I was just getting better, but looking wouldn't hurt, would it?

I opened the doors again and took the shirt out. His smell wandered into my nose, making me close my eyes in peace. It reminded me of a time where everything was different. A time in which I didn't flinch when I heard his name.

With a smile on my face I decided to change my dress for this Shirt and a pair of ripped jeans. It was chill outfit, perfect for a movie night, right?

"Layla?"

Damons voice made me snap back to reality. My ears noticed him being in the living room, so I made my way to the kitchen first, grabbing the bottle of his favourite liqour.

"Hey look what I got you from the sto-"

When I saw Damon standing there with an unexpected guest by his side, I felt the bottle slip out of my hands and shatter apart on the wooden floor. My heart skipped a beat as I looked into Kais face after a year of avoiding him. His eyes traveled from my eyes on to the shirt that once belonged to him, causing a soft smile to appear on his lips.

"What is he doing here?"

I asked my best friend while taking a step back. Damon walked towards me, trying to explain why he brought the reason for my biggest mistake back into my life.

"He wanted to talk to you-"

"And you agreed and said, alright mate no problem? Damon why are you putting me through this hell-"

"Because he might know how to get Elena back- the only thing he wanted in return is to talk to you.."

My voice fell silent at his response. Of course I couldn't stay mad at him. It was my fault that Elena was gone and it was normal for him to do everything in order to get her back to life. I, now, switched my glare to Kai and nodded.

"You have five minutes."
