VICKI DONOVAN was in the hospital, and according to Matt, the doctors said she would be fine. They were claiming it was an animal attack, but Charlie knew better than that. With the wound on Vicki's neck, the town's supernatural history, and Stefan Salvatore's strange and timely appearance, she was surprised no one else had figured it out.

However, she had a problem. She was new to the supernatural world, and she stood no chance against a vampire. But she couldn't allow Stefan to walk around, maiming and killing people as he pleases. She could try to talk to him, but her Uncle Mason always taught her to never trust vampires, no matter how handsome they are. Well, he didn't exactly say the last part, but she felt that it was important in this situation.

So, what could she do? She could call Mason for back up, but then Tyler and her mom would ask too many questions as to why he was there. She could contact the founder's council, but they would ask too many questions as t how she knew. She couldn't risk them finding out about her secret.

Her thoughts were interrupted when she saw Jeremy Gilbert walking down the path of the school and towards her brother. This cannot be good, she thought, for there could be no good reason that Jeremy would want to interact with Tyler.

She decided that she didn't want to be in the middle of their drama, but there was no reason why she couldn't listen to it. She moved her hair out from in front of her ear and tucked it behind so that she could hear better. She then listened, and her ears perked as they began to pick up the slightest sounds.

She could hear the birds chirping, people laughing, footsteps on the pavement, and more, but she focused her hearing on her brother and her... acquaintance? She had no idea what to refer to Jeremy as. They weren't exactly friends, but they weren't strangers either. Back to the topic at hand.

"Hey, Tyler." She heard Jeremy's voice call as he approached the Lockwood boy. "Hey, I'm sorry to interrupt. I was just wondering how Vicki's doing, since you guys are so close." Oh, God. Not this fight again. "Is she okay?"

"She's fine. Now get out of here," Tyler responded, glaring at the boy in front of him. He was about to turn back to the girls he was talking to, but before he could, Jeremy spoke up again.
