CHARLIE WAS WALKING AROUND THE GROUNDS OF HER HOUSE. What used to be her backyard was now decorated in extravagant lace and ribbon. Flowers were everywhere, and drink and food tables were being set up. She was walking alongside Caroline, who, as the reigning Miss Mystic Falls, was bossing everyone around in preparation for the event.

"So, Elena is insisting that breaking up with Stefan is what's best for her, and I'm trying not to pick sides," the blonde girl ranted to her friend, slapping her hand away as she reached to grab a chocolate truffle from a tray passing them. She frowned, and the Forbes girl froze for a second before turning to her friend with an apologetic look. "And I'm an awful friend for not asking how you were doing with the Jeremy thing."

"What Jeremy thing?" the Lockwood girl questioned, shrugging it off like she had no idea what her best friend was talking about, even though she definitely did. She had been thinking about it ever since that day at the high school, when he decided to kiss her in that classroom. He was so confusing. Did that mean that he did not want to be with her, or that he wanted to be with her but only in a friends-with-benefits way?

Caroline shot her a not convinced look. She knew the girl better than everyone. They had been attached at the hip since they were four and six. She groaned, never thinking that she would have to be complaining about Jeremy freaking Gilbert being an asshole to Charlie. She had been pretty sure that he was in love with her since, like, forever. "Oh, come on. He's escorting someone else."

"So?"

The vampire groaned, and she yelled at someone laying out tablecloths for the wrinkles before continuing the conversation. She could not believe that the hybrid did not see what was wrong with the situation. "So, you two slept together, and you've been making googly eyes at each other since last year."

"First of all, I thought we weren't mentioning that," the Lockwood responded, referring to the fact that she slept with Jeremy. Caroline was the only one that she had told. She did not know if the Gilbert boy had told anyone, but she assumed that he had not. "Second of all, no we haven't. Besides, April asked first."

"You had dibs! You cannot pretend like he's not an asshole. He could have told her that he had a girlfriend," Caroline argued, and she was getting really loud. So, Charlie made a gesture that told her to lower her voice because people were starting to stare.
