CHARLIE WAS WIPING DOWN A TABLE AT WORK as she listened to some music through her headphones. She was not on waiting duty, so she did not have to worry about people talking to her. She grabbed the stack of dishes that she had cleared off the table and turned around before freezing.

She was standing right where she first met JJ. The seat next to her was where she sat, doing her homework and research with the cord plugged in across the walkway. That was where the blonde girl tripped, and the Lockwood helped her and apologized immensely. That was where they first brushed hands. She could practically feel the Martin girl's skin on hers.

A tap on her shoulder broke her out of her trance, and she whipped around to see Jeremy and pulled out her headphones so that she could talk to him. He must have noticed that something was off because he was giving her a concerned look. "Hey, you good?"

"Yeah," she answered, and she was grateful that he did not press further because if he did, she might have broken down crying right then and there.

She went behind the bar to put the dishes away, and he followed her on the other side of the counter. He leaned his elbows on the wood and raised his eyebrows at her. "How's your first day back?"

"All right. Carl put me on cleaning duty," the girl responded, slinging her cloth over her shoulder as she sighed. "Guess he's still mad at me."

"That sucks, but the rest of us thank you for your services so that we do not have to do them," he chuckled out since usually, the duty was split on sections, but Charlie had just been tasked with all of the cleaning around the restaurant during her shift.

She rolled her eyes before she noticed that her brother had just stepped into the restaurant and was waving her over. "Yeah, yeah. Tyler's here. I wonder what he wants. One second." Jeremy nodded and headed back to work as she walked over to the boy that looked very anxious for some reason.

"Guess what mom just told me," he said when she walked over to him. He seemed a little shocked by whatever it was, so it was probably nothing that the girl already knew.

She pretended to think, knowing that she had no idea what her mother had told him. "That you're adopted."

"How would that even work with the werewolf thing?" he questioned, and when he realized that she was kidding, he glared at her before moving on. "Anyway, she just gave me some information about Caroline."
