Pulling into the nearest parking spot I took a deep breath as I glanced sideways and braced myself for what was to come.
"Okay, we're here."
"Um, no we're not..." came the slow reply as Mia's head slowly scanned the outside parking lot that was teaming with people all rushing towards the school fields. It took a while for her to register what was happening but I could tell the moment it all clicked together as the ice enter her blue eyes when she turned them on me.
"...What the hell Michael? You're supposed to take me to aunt Sarah's to babysit right?"
Switching the car off, I turned to her smiling sheepishly as I rubbed my head in anticipation for the pain that would soon be there.
"I know that's what I said I would do but...I lied," I said slowly trying to keep my voice as remorseful as possible.
Mia glared at me silently for a while before letting her eyes wander back to our surroundings outside the car. Glancing in the direction that caught her eye I saw a few members of the track team in full gear as they jogged through the parking lot.
"Give me the keys." Mia demanded her voice deadpan.
Shaking my head, I shoved them into my pocket as I jumped out of the driver's seat. Standing outside the car I scanned the parking lot in hopes for back up, but saw no signs of Randy's old pick anywhere. It took me a while to realize Mia was still seated in the passenger seat. Sighing in annoyance I walked around the car and knocked on the window. Icy blue eyes glared up at me. Going for the door handle I opened it before she got a chance to manually lock it.
"Are you seriously going to make me do this the hard way?" I asked irritably.
Huffing in irritation herself she puffed her cheeks out as she glared up as me, arms folded across her chest.
"Are you seriously doing this to me right now?" she countered.
Stepping back I crossed my own arms and glared back at her.
"Do what?" I asked sarcastically, "Oh! You mean giving you a chance to make things right with the one you've been in love for- for who knows how long?"
Mia flinched at the tone of my voice. I took a deep breath. Even if I was helping her, I guess even I couldn't overlook who I was helping her with.
"Look sis, I know you think things are messed up right now. But is hiding out at home really going to solve anything?"
"It's not that simple..." she mumbled.
"Well it is to me." I grated out irritably.
Mia's shoulders relaxed slightly as a sad smile spread across her face. Reaching out my hand I waited for her to take it. Narrowing her eyes she looked at it, a stubborn scowl on her face as she contemplated whether to take it or not.
"Come on Mia. Besides, you haven't missed a race she's been in, why start now?"
Mia's eyes rounded in surprise as she looked up at me. I shrugged as I smiled knowingly.
"Once you know, certain things kinda start making sense." I explained as I remembered all the times Mia had joined me in my light stalking of Amy Mason at parties and practice games. In all honestly it should have struck me as weird that my sister was always with me stalking my crush, but the fact that we were twins who supposedly shared everything with each other made it seem normal.
A blush colored Mia's cheekbones as she looked away. Waving my hand in front of her face I urged her on.
"So are you coming out or not?"
Mia froze for a moment as she looked up at me but all I did was smile warmly back at her as I kept my hand out. Slowly she reached out and took it.
Once Mia was out the car I fished out my phone and dialed Randy's number, still scanning the parking lot for any sign of him. The phone rang twice before he answered it.
"Blue bird is on the way." I stated proudly, winking at Mia. She watched me suspiciously as she too scanned the parking lot, though her eyes kept straying nervously to the fields.
"I'm not using code names Michael." Randy responded on the other end, his voice giving nothing away.
"You know it makes things so much better though!" I argued.
"Whatever, so you got Mia here at the school?" Randy asked curiously.
"That's what I said, but where are you?" I queried, a nervous tick starting in my stomach as I thought the plan had failed.
"I just spoke to Trish..." Randy trailed off, "I don't know what to say other than... it looks like it's an all go."
My heart skipped a beat as I listened to what he said, "What do you mean?"
Mia slowed down to walked beside me, a look of concern on her face as she watched me carefully.
Randy's sigh reverberated through the phone followed by a chuckle. A moment of silence passed before he spoke.
"Just get Mia to the tracks, I'll explain everything there."
With that he hung up. Mia looked at me worriedly.
"Is everything okay?" she asked.
I nodded my head, confusion seeping in as I tried to think of what Randy could have heard from Trish. Picking up the pace I guided Mia closer to the fields. I could feel as she became more and more reluctant to go closer to the tracks.
As we came closer to the bleachers I spotted Trish's profile immediately against the crowd and moved towards her, grabbing Mia by the hand as I urged her forcefully to join the two whispering figures on the side of the tracks.
Randy was the first to look up as he spotted us approaching.
"Hey!"
He glanced nervously towards Mia, who in turn watched Trish nervously glancing around her. Trish looked from Mia to me, a strange smile on her face.
"So you actually came..." she shook her head, "aren't we just something...?" she mumbled under her breath as she came closer to me. Mia looked away as she moved to Randy and looked out to the field. Randy shook his head as he looked up at me before joining her.
"You sure about this...?" Trish asked softly, her voice low so only my ears could hear.
"Depends," I whispered back.
Trish raised her eyebrow curiously, "On what?"
I nodded my head in the direction of my sister and the distant figure her eyes had finally settled on.
"On the choices they make."
Trish chuckled lightly, a sad tone in her voice as she looked to the distant figure herself, her face unreadable.
"Her choice was made long ago..." she stated clearly. Smiling up at me she turned on her heel and walked to the edge of the track.
Trish waved back as she signaled to Randy. Randy nodded his head in acknowledgment as he waved back.
"Well, see you at the end of the race!" she yelled back before jogging off in the direction of the starting line for the tracks.
[Looks like somethings brewing O.O seems like our broken hearts are up to something, but will everything go according to plan?
