[>_< I'm really sorry that updates are horribly slow, school is literally kicking my ass and then some T-T But I hope you enjoy this chapter, inspired while I was scanning crap at work. Don't be shy to comment what you think about things so far and even how you think things will go ;P]

“So what do you say?”

“No.” I replied wearily for the hundredth time.

I looked at him, trying to keep as civil as possible. I could feel all the eyes that were trained on us, some seemed to think that trying to hide their stares was being decent, but the blatant gaze that was fixed in our direction made their efforts almost laughable.

I could tell that Michael was just as aware of the attention by the smile that crawled over his lips. My anger crept up as I moved my eyes away from that part of his face, in an attempt to keep that horrid memory away. It was in that moment I realized that he had chosen this place, at this moment on purpose. Narrowing my eyes I faced him with my own growing smile of defiance. It seemed Michael Angel thought he knew me, or at least how all girls ticked… pity I didn’t function like his average type.

There was a slight shift of confidence only visible in his eyes, but he was quick to hide it. I had to admire his persistence, except right now it was directed to me and I was finding his efforts very annoying. Worst of all it seemed as if Mia had vanished from her brother’s side during his exploits over the past few days.

Michael leaned against the table, crossing his arms. As I pushed my lunch away from him, I used it as an excuse to move further up the table, away from him.

“Come on Mason…” he groaned playfully, “what will it take, huh?” he pleaded in a gruff seductive tone.

I narrowed my eyes in his direction, “You’re seriously asking that?”

His eyes fixed on my face, the intensity softening as he watched me.

“I would think that a hundred plus rejections would make it pretty clear that I’m not interested.” My voice was soft as I tried to make the words sound less biting as they were. Michael waved his hand absently, as if it was all just an insignificant issue to be brushed away.

“I understand that it wasn’t exactly the greatest of confessions, but that doesn’t mean you should start denying what you’re feeling.”

Choking on the juice I had just sipped, I stifled something between a snort and a laugh. Michael rushed like the white knight he thought he was as he sat next to me, a little too closely, and began patting my back. Frustration was building as he ignored my attempts to push him away. I smirked mentally as I tried to catch my breath, feeling as he exerted more strength than was needed.

“Are you alright?” he fussed. As I leaned away from him I caught sight of a group of some of the younger freshman giggling three tables away as they gawked at us.

I have a bad feeling about this….

I sighed, blatantly moving further away from Michael, glaring in his direction. Before I could verbally tell him to vanish, I was embraced from the back, the familiar scent of peaches filling the space around me.

“So I guess it’s true, Tailor High’s power couple is born.”

Trish was smiling as she winked at Michael and me, her arms tightening around my shoulders. I sneered at her as I registered what she had said.

“Don’t start Trish, not you too….”

She laughed as she hung on me, though the echo of it felt different, almost empty. I tried to turn and face her, but her arms kept me in place.

“It’s already all over the school, also happens to be the reason I knew where to find you…”

“Why-”

Cutting me off, Trish ruffled my hair as she spoke gesturing towards Michael, who I had completely forgotten about. Turning to him I saw an odd look on his face as he stared in our direction.

“Not you, him.”

Michael didn’t seem surprised, instead he only showed curiosity.

“And why would you be looking for me?”

I could tell when she spoke that Trish was smiling and immediately I felt an ominous feeling in the pit of my stomach, the kind I usually got when Trish brought up some or other party which she would eventually try to convince me to go to.

“Randy tells me you have plans for an outing, this true?”

Out the corner of my eye I caught Michael grinding his teeth before finding his composure again. Smiling towards a place just above my head, he leaned on the lunch table. I figured his attention was focused on where Trish stood. I was slowly beginning to realize my movement was more restricted than I first thought as I felt her arms still locked around my shoulders, making it near impossible to turn around and face her.

“He did, did he now? And what if I did?”

He kept his voice low, the hint of a grumble in his throat. I watched him suspiciously.

“So…?” Trish sang as she laid her head onto my shoulder. A faint feeling of warmth radiated off her and I wondered if she had a fever.

It was a battle of stares, though I could only see Michael’s side and I could tell he was losing. I smiled as I watched a twitch begin on his left temple.

“So… what?” he countered, his eyes determined as his jaw set into a stubborn forced smile.

Trish sighed, shaking her head as she chuckled, “Where’s this thing happening?”

Another mini stare competition happened again, but Trish still held up as champion as Michael caved. Sighing he spoke up, his tone echoing his defeat.

“Parker’s Carnival’s in town this weekend…” he trailed off, his eyes moving to me, before returning back to where Trish was.

I could feel Trish nodding against my shoulder. My eyebrow rose in question, I tried to turn and face Trish, but once again her arms tightened around me, locking me in place.

“That’s a pretty good start, I guess.”

I could feel the relief that rippled off of Michael and as I turned, I watched him smiling as he watched us.

My mind was spinning as I tried to put everything together.

“Could someone fill me in here?” I asked in irritation.

Michael avoided my searching gaze, but it didn’t take Trish long to fill the silence.

“Carnival, this weekend…. What time?”

I sat in silence, processing this new information. I registered about the same time as Michael did that those last words where directed towards him. He looked puzzled as he stared blankly at Trish, his tone hesitant.

“I was thinking about 10:00 am?”

“That sounds reasonable.” Trish lifted her head at the shout of her name across from the cafeteria.

“Shit! We’re late for practice.”

Grabbing my hand and yanking me from the chair. I found myself being escorted to the outside, in the direction of the sports field. Trish turned just as we were about to exit the cafeteria and yelled towards Michael.

“I’ll make sure she gets there!”

I didn’t have time for any arguments or even an idea of what to argue about as I was shuffled out the door and forced to chase Trish towards the track course, completely unable to register what had just happened.
