‘So…Mason what is it you want?’
The words still rung in my head, the sound of the water cascading down from the shower head doing nothing to silence the irritating words as I had hoped. Three days and still I could hear Randy’s annoying voice as he asked those words.
“Aargh…”
Turning around to let the water flow down my back I glared at the wall and grabbed the teddy bear shampoo our mother still insisted we needed because ‘it made our hair smell fruity’.
“You know what ‘sign’ it is Randy, huh?” I began yelling at the bear, “It’s a sign that someone does something stupid, or you know~ maybe says ‘I love you’!”
Standing under the warm spray I felt a hysterical laugh begin to bubble in my chest as I realized I was shouting at a plastic teddy bear screwed onto a shampoo bottle.
“If you’re going to go crazy, can you do it without getting Stanley involved?”
I jumped at the sound of my little sister’s voice echoing on the other side of the glass behind me.
“Cass! Is that you?”
Snickering Cassidy replied, “Of course Psycho, who else?”
I could feel my face reddening as I began to wonder how long she had been out there. As if reading my mind the snickering continued along with the shuffling of feet.
“Oh yeah, I totally heard you.” Cassidy confirmed.
“Busy here, if you haven’t noticed.” I grumbled, trying to keep the embarrassment out my voice.
“Yeah, well you were taking too long and I needed the bathroom,” more snickering followed as she flushed the toilet, “who knew I’d get a stage performance.”
After a few minutes of silence I waited to hear the door open and close. But nothing but the sound of water gushing out the shower head echoed in the bathroom.
“Cass, are you still here…?”
Knocking on the glass and scaring me half to death Cassidy’s finger pressed against the glass as she drew a smiley face were my shoulder was.
“Of course I am- so who’s this Randy guy?”
Flicking some water in the direction I pictured her standing I sighed in defeat as I squeezed some of Stanley’s sweet smelling contents onto my hand and began massaging it into my head.
“Apparently he’s now one of my friends- you’ve already met him,” I said recalling the time Mia had walked into my living room looking all worried as she scanned my broken body. I couldn’t help grinning a little even as I dropped Stanley’s twin a little too harshly back on the rack, “He’s the guy who couldn’t keep his eyes off Mia.”
“Ah~ I remember him- he’s cute. So what’s this talk about a ‘sign’ you had with him?” Cassidy asked, her voice moving away from the glass. I pictured her making herself comfortable on top of the toilet seat and shook my head, scolding myself internally for being so careless in my frustration. I knew once Cassidy had a bone, even the scent of one, she wouldn’t let go.
“He wanted to know why I hadn’t spoken to Michael yet-”
“.I.E seriously rejected him.” Cassidy interjected.
