[Hello~ Thanks for reading up to this point and especially thank you for all the votes, I am truly surprised to receive them >.< Please enjoy this next chapter as we draw closer to the end of my story, and yes you read right, sadly all stories must come to a close and though I'd love to carry this one on, I would be doing you an injustice by simply giving you garbage to read.
Anyway I hope you enjoy this ^~^/]
"Looks like your sister isn't going to watch your game..." I mumbled absentmindedly, staring off into the distance.
"I figured as much," Michael said uninterestedly as he leaned over the wall that separated us from the track field, "more importantly shouldn't you be finishing the race?" he asked curiously.
"I'm injured." I responded evenly.
"Yeah right..." Michael scoffed before nodding his head in the direction of the bleachers, "Isn't that what the sponsors want to see anyway, an injured athlete pushing through and all that?"
My laugh was hollow as I turned to him, "Somehow I doubt that. Besides..." shaking my head, a sad smile curved my lips upward as Amy's face flashed across my mind's eye, "I wasn't into the sport for them."
Stretching out my arms I leaned forward and joined Michael on the wall, watching the last of the runners finish up the race that not many of the spectators seemed very interested in anymore.
"It looks like I'll need a new hobby to busy myself with..." I grumbled jokingly, fighting the pain that stabbed at my heart as the words left my mouth.
I could feel as Michael's eyes turned to look at me, but I didn't turn to meet them as I kept my gaze on the field before me. So many emotions seemed to be fighting to burst from me, but I fought against them as I bit down on my lip and forced a smile.
"You know I should be extremely angry right now." I stated looking up at the sky as I tried to hide my face from his searching eyes.
Hearing movement I watched out the corner of my eye as Michael stood up and turned around, his back to the field as he looked towards the parking lot, his face unreadable.
"Yeah, I know what you mean..." he agreed.
A solemn silence fell between us as we both got lost in our thoughts. A scathing smile creased my lips as I thought of what it was we both pined for. My knuckles turned white as I gripped onto the wall thinking of how happy Amy probably was at the moment. As her friend I should have been happy for her, yet the more I thought of her, the closer I felt to tears.
"It's okay to cry you know." Michael said softly, startling me slightly.
"Yeah... well I'm not the crying type." I mumbled irritably leaning in closer to him as I lowered my head.
"Really..? That's totally not cute," he murmured.
"Asshole..." I grumbled as my head found the edge of his shoulder. Michael chuckled softly as he raised his arm and placed his hand gently on my head.
"Yeah, I know." He whispered his voice warm and comforting. I kept silent as I leaned into him and allowed myself this moment of weakness.
Listening to the noise of the sports festival around I slowly let the reality of what I lost come over me. Truth be told, the hurt wasn't as painful as I had expected and though that disappointed me slightly something told me that was a good thing. It meant I could face Amy again and stay her friend. At least there was that, though I wondered if the same could be said for Michael.
Taking a deep breath I pushed myself up and blinked away the unshed tears as I looked up to the sky and stretched my arms out.
"So Mr Player, you think it's time we graduated from that club already?" I asked more cheerfully than I felt.
Michael seemed to flinch at my words as he turned to look at me, his blue eyes drilling into me.
"That's a bit cruel isn't it?" he grumbled feigning a hurt expression as he raised his eyebrow.
"What is?" I asked innocently.
"I'm not..." he trailed off as I tried to mask my mischievous grin, "I guess my reputation isn't all that great."
I laughed as he tilted his head innocently to the side. Just like that we got lost in conversation as we moved away from the track field and in the direction of the basketball courts. I knew Michael had avoided answering properly for a reason. It wasn't easy graduating from the 'heartbreak' club, but we'd both try. After all we didn't really have much of a choice but to try. In fact the only thing we did have a choice was whether we'd try together and honestly, right now that didn't seem like too bad a proposition.
[Looks like our broken hearts have found a way of healing ^~^ or at least a way to try...
