[So~ I have the horrible case of writer's block and I tried very hard to overcome it by 'writing through it'... now if this worked, you be the judge. Personally, I am not too happy with it, but I have nothing else and it is kind of, in the range of, what I was aiming for... sort of... but enjoy! I hope...]

My mind was blank as my eyes focused on the scene before me. I couldn’t hear the words spoken, but the echo of the punch had reached my ears, if not the whole school. I hadn’t expected her to hit Michael and yet I couldn’t really say I didn’t expect it. The reaction seemed to be the only outcome that made sense. I glanced out the corner of my eye to see Mia’s reaction. There was a silence around her that felt heavy and discouraged my brain to form sentences. Her eyes were fixed on her brother and Amy and her face was unreadable. I couldn’t tell if she was surprised, excited or angry. Mia was just watching. I turned back to the classroom and saw that Amy was talking now and Michael seemed completely confused and… happy?

In that moment I wondered if maybe Amy hadn’t given the poor guy a concussion. I moved closer to Mia. I was pretty sure they wouldn’t hear us, but I still didn’t want to take chances.

“What do you think is happening?” I whispered to Mia, trying to keep my voice calm as I moved closer to her neck to whisper in her ear. Mia didn’t flinch away, nor did she respond. For a brief moment I questioned whether she could hear them or not. But before I could ask her, I spotted movement on my side and turned to see what was further down the hallway. I was surprised to see Trish backing away from the other door that led to the classroom and knew immediately she had witnessed what we had. Someone else now knew Michael Angel liked Amy Mason.

“Crap, we have,” I turned to Mia, but she had not even taken note of the other observer. There was a twitch in her temple and for the first time I saw an expression I had never thought Mia Angel possessed. Anger flashed across Mia’s blue eyes before being clouded by another more subdued version and then vanishing completely as she turned to me, her face stoic.

“I’m going to get lunch.”

“Yeah, sure lets-” she turned on her heel and walked off, not bothering to wait for my response and I wondered if I hadn’t imagined the tumult of emotion that had washed across her face. I hesitated before taking a step forward and instead turned to Trish who now stood away from the door to the classroom. I could tell something was wrong as she moved one sluggish step after another before stopping completely in the middle of the hallway.

Normally Trish Braker maintained the aura of someone who needed to be seen, someone you couldn’t look away from, not unless it was to advise someone not looking of their grave mistake. But as I watched her, I felt as though she had lost a bit of her lustre. Trish seemed both shocked and devastated. Before I knew what I was thinking I walked closer, hoping ways to comfort her were the same as comforting small animals.

Trish’s head jerked at the sound of my footsteps and her eyes met mine in surprise. Though we had both ran here from the classroom Michael had dragged Amy from, it seemed as though Trish was trying to understand why I was in front of her.

“Are you okay?” I asked cautiously as I watched her face transform drastically to that of someone completely without expression. The change seemed almost painful.

“Randy!” Mia was at the end of the hallway waving me down. I smiled in relief as I realised she had been waiting for me. I turned to Trish, if Amy was going to join our group, Trish was a packaged deal right?

“Hey you wanna-” my words cut off as I stared in confusion at Trish, who watched Mia at the other end of the hallway. Five seconds later Trish turned and ran in the opposite direction.
