I stared at the field watching as the track team began their last practice run for the day. Scanning the field more clearly I ground my teeth as I was forced to accept that there was no trace of Amy anywhere on the field or off it. Remembering what Kane had said earlier, I felt the agitation spark in my gut. My hand twitched in anticipation for the next time I came across Trevor. The steroid junky had always been a thoroughbred douchebag which alone should have been reason enough to punch him on a good day. But with his recent claims and constant bragging, it was beginning to become harder to suppress the reasons I didn’t end the arrogant son-of-a-bitch’s sports career. It didn’t take a genius to figure out why Trish had taken him down- something I really wished I had been there to do.

I could picture him mouthing off with some new embellishments on how he had bed Amy, only to have Trish shut him up. Even thinking about the situation made my blood boil. The sudden sound of swooshing caught my attention and I turned my head back to the court. For the second time that day I smashed a ball away from my face as I glared to Gary and Kane who stood watching me in confusion, along with the rest of the team that littered the court.

I could feel my face twisted in the anger that lingered from my thoughts. Wiping my face to remove both the evidence of my emotion and the thin film of sweat from practice, I shook my head clear as I turned back to them.

“I’m out for this one guys.”

Gary looked to me as if I was insane, a twitch of irritation covering half his face.

“You can’t be serious Angel!? The sports festival is in two weeks- not to mention we’re playing against Mayberry!”

Kane nodded his head in agreement at the mention of one of our rival schools who had beaten us the previous year and stolen the final spot at the championships. Kane scanned my face curiously as he stared intensely at me, “Yeah captain, we can’t get to finals without beating those dicks. We’re already down our Vice- we can’t practice without you too!”

The other players eyed each other warily as they nodded their head. I could feel the tension and strange mix of curiosity they harbored as they regarded me. I couldn’t blame them; it wasn’t like me to be unable to keep my head in the game. But it just proved how much Amy had gotten into my head over the past few days and if I had to be honest, it wasn’t in an entirely good way. I was beginning to feel that cold shoulder of hers a bit too deeply and it was starting to play tricks with my focus. My jaw began to stiffen as I was forced to admit that for once I was becoming uncertain about a girl’s feelings for me and I didn’t like it. I didn’t like it at all.

I caught some curious glances as some of them looked from the track field to me. A tick formed at my temple as I glared them down before turning to the others.

“Are you telling me that you guys are so crap that you can’t practice without Randy and me?” I ground out irritably, “…with a team like that, we wouldn’t deserve to go to finals.”

Grabbing the ball at my feet I threw it to Kane and glared Gary’s way, ignoring the added venom that seethed out his eyes as he glared right back at me.

“Kane takes point. I’m benched for this practice.”

I turned around before Kane could protest and made my way to the benches on the side. I heard Kane sigh in exasperation as he began dribbling the ball.
