Living

"Chaos Control!", Shadow says, completing teleportation, with Sonic's hand in his. "We're here.", he declares. "Cool—!", Sonic says, looking around. He sees an open space with a glass window view of Station Square. There is a television and two couches close by. It appears it is a living room. Close by is a kitchen and, on the other side of the living space, are two doors to separate bedrooms. It appears the hedgehogs are in Shadow's apartment building. Pulling Sonic back to their conversation, "You're staying here.", Shadow confidently proclaims, pointing Sonic to one of the doors. "Uh— Okay.", he quickly agrees, appreciating his hospitality, although it is forced.

Shadow opens the bedroom door and takes Sonic by the hand again, but now dragging him along. He now helps him onto the bed. "This is the guest room. Stay out of mine.", he demands, closing the door. Sonic chuckles and sighs, noticing his kindness contrasting with his edgy attitude. Now left to his thoughts, Sonic wonders how long he was unconscious and if Tails knows he is okay. Not wanting to leave his best buddy to worry, Sonic quickly hops off the bed and speeds out of room, knocking onto Shadow's door.

"Hey, Shadow!"

"Yes?"

"Have you chatted with Tails today?"

"No, why?"

"I don't want him worried or anything. That's all."

"You were only out for a few minutes."

"Oh, that's good! Well, I'm heading out."

"No you're not."

"Huh?"

Shadow finally opens his door and steps out of his bedroom. He grabs Sonic by the arm. "You're not leaving until I know for sure you've healed."

"But—"

Shadow gazes at Sonic with his protective crimson eyes. "I'm not letting you out of my sight."

"Fine—", Sonic moans.

"Where do you want to go?", Shadow invites.

"I don't know, I just wanna run."

"I see. Let me come with you."

"Sure!"

Sonic tries to dash out of the apartment, expecting that the door is unlocked, but finds himself at a locked door as he reaches his hand. Crash! He bumps his nose on the door. Shadow chuckles.

"The door is locked."

"Yeah, I couldn't help but notice.", Sonic remarks, rubbing his nose.

Shadow unlocks the door for him, letting him go freely. "You can go."

"Thanks."

"You're welcome."

Sonic looks up to see a portrait close to the exit. She is a young girl with blue eyes and blonde hair, with pale skin, dressed in blue. Her gentle smile looks down at him, as a golden picture frame encases her. "Oh, it's Maria.", he realizes. Shadow notices him staring at her and also begins to stare, then gazing back at Sonic. "Let's go.", he gently requests, not wanting a feeling of loss to settle back in. "Okay.", Sonic understands.

The duo of hedgehogs continue into the hallway, Shadow happy he is not alone. "Wow, there's a lot of people here.", Sonic comments, as people enter and leave their apartments. "Mhm.", Shadow agrees, as they continue through the building. Sonic regains his speed and runs through the building, causing a bit of a stur. Shadow calls out to him, "Slow down until we get outside.", sighing of embarrassment, as neighbors crowd around to see what is causing so much noise while Sonic's high speed creates small booms. "—Sorry about that!", Sonic yells back, increasing speed as he makes it outside. "Do you ever learn?", Shadow catches Sonic by the arm, as a car screeches in front of them. Sonic is already in the middle of the road. "I get it.", he acknowledges, while slowing down to go onto the sidewalk instead. "Do you need a babysitter?", Shadow thinks, but soon decides to forgive him. Sonic now runs at what is his moderate speed, running on the sidewalk.

Sonic continues running, having fun, while Shadow runs close behind, watching him. "He seems fine already.", he realizes, as Sonic is running at his normal speed, while also paying more attention to his surroundings. Shadow smiles. "I guess my job here is done.", he thinks to himself, before teleporting away. "Oh, look! It seems they're building somethin' over there.", Sonic points out, seeing a construction site, but soon turns around to see that Shadow already had left. Sonic chuckles, knowing it is in Shadow's nature to leave without saying bye and continues about his day.
