"Stupid Ivo... I'm lucky Sonic's so capable.", Shadow thinks, remembering the little battle with his tech. Sonic looks at his eyes as if reading his thoughts. "Pssh. Forget him. Besides, we can handle whatever he brings next!", he tries to help him confidentiality brush it off. "You're right.", Shadow agrees.
"Hey, I had fun hanging out today!"
Shadow smiles, "So did I."
"Y'know,"
"Yes, Sonic?"
"...do you ever look at the stars and wonder what's out there?", he says, watching as the moon rises over the now twilight desert.
Shadow feels a chill, but not from the evening air: from his mind, as he remembers watching the stars with Maria, wondering what awaited him on the planet below. "I never imagined someone so wonderful.", he thinks, looking at Sonic.
Sonic turns his head, gazing his eyes back at Shadow's, noticing the distant gaze that is fixated on him. "Who're you staring at?", he jokes.
"It's all turned full circle.", Shadow thinks, remembering again.
"Shadow...?"
He pictures watching from a window on the Space Colony ARK. "'Shadow, what do you think it's like on Earth?'", Maria's voice returns to his mind. "'The professor said his life's work was dedicated to all of those who live down there...''", his mind fades back to his own words, "'I often wonder why I was created-- What my purpose is for being here. Maybe if I go down there, I...'"
Suddenly, Shadow feels someone's hand in his. He remembers the present. "Sonic? I--"
"You're not alone anymore."
"--I found my answers."
