This takes place during the events of "Shadow & Sonic: Freeze", before the final chapter.
Sonic feels a little badly that Shadow's apartment was destroyed, especially since he helped decorate it for Christmas. He decides to visit the place since it was recently repaired and he knows Shadow could use help with refurnishing it. Meanwhile, Shadow picks up the broken painting of Maria. He feels himself about to cry as he suddenly hears a much-welcomed knock on his door. "Come in.", he says, before unlocking the door for Sonic to enter.
Shadow wipes his tears from sparkling ruby eyes. "Are you okay?", Sonic asks. "Yes, a little melancholic, but I'll be okay.", he replies. Sonic smiles again, before offering, "I came to see if I can help with anything here, since— You know." "Sonic, that's the last thing you should be doing right now.", Shadow scolds.
"Why not?"
"Do you realize how much a hibernation attempt can effect you?"
"Yeah."
"The nurse said you should focus on staying warm and eating plenty for the next few days to prevent yourself from doing it again."
"You're right... I should just go now."
"That's not at all what I'm saying. You can stay, but I can handle the unpacking. You take care of yourself. Besides, if I really need it, I can still ask Omega to do the unloading for me."
"Okay."
Sonic stays at Shadow's place for a little while.
"Sonic,"
"Hmm?"
"Here. There's a present I want you to have early."
"Oh?"
Shadow hands a gift bag to Sonic, which he unwraps, finding a red scarf. Shadow gently takes it from Sonic's hands and wraps it around his neck, making sure it is nice and snug. "That should keep you warm, and remind you of my love for you.", he thinks, smiling.
