Lunchtime.
"All I'm saying is I don't think it's fair that Chrissy Cunningham gets to be chosen first to play the lead in the cast!" Kat mocked her name. "Of course she's getting chosen, she's head cheerleader and everyone supposedly loves her. They don't even want to audition for the lead? Despicable!" Kat glared as she hissed.
Luna looked up from her phone and frowned. "Sorry, we're having a school play?" She then asked.
Kat smirked as she shook her head. "Not anymore." She quietly spoke.
"You should fight for it. I mean you were great in Mamma Mia..." Luna told her.
"I didn't even get the lead! because I have red hair? Chrissy was the only blonde!" Kat rolled her eyes before opening up a chocolate pudding cup.
"Well how is that diverse?" Luna asked. "Everyone is welcome, my ass." She laughed.
Trays clattered down on the table making the girls jump. Kyle, Elliot and Wyatt took their seats beside them as the bickered to each other about something.
Kat looked at Luna with an unsatisfied expression.
"You can't beat him with that power!" Elliot gasped.
"God..." Kat rolled her eyes. "Do they ever sit alone?" She then asked as Luna smirked and dropped her eyes to her phone again. She then popped a grape into her mouth and crunched down as Kat clapped her hands.
"Do you guys never...engage with your friends?" She asked.
Silence.
"Hi Kat!" Wyatt grinned and waved at her.
"Hello?" Kat raised an eyebrow which made Luna chuckle. Wyatt had been crushing on Katherine for a long time. It was funny, even though it is rather sweet. Kat always acts oblivious to it.
"Kyle doesn't want us sitting alone." Elliot spoke up.
"Why? What did you do?" Kat sighed.
"We didn't do anything. He's scared...of Munson." He held in a laugh as Wyatt sniggered beside him.
Luna's ears perked up as she lifted her head to look at her brother.
"Shut up! You two are just as bad, I am not scared!"
"What has he done? Has he said something?" Luna asked and watched as the three boys shook their heads.
"Nah we were heading to class earlier and accidently exchanged eye contact with him. It wasn't brief. Okay we were staring at him and his friends." Elliot admitted.
Kat began to giggle as she started to eat into her chocolate pudding.
"Aw don't worry, he won't say shit. He knows your sister is a bad ass...isn't that right Luna?" She looked up with a smirk and wide eyes.
Luna shook her head. "Just ignore him." She told the boys. She then looked away and up the canteen where she found him sitting with his friends. Munson. Eddie Munson. Luna and Eddie used to actually be friends. They were best friends in fact, since they met back in the 5th Grade.
Eddie was this boy who people didn't really like because he spoke the truth. He was very outspoken. He didn't care no one liked him, because he didn't really like anyone either. 'A copy and paste of each other' was his choice of words. He wasn't interested in fitting in, he liked standing out.
He liked old school classic rock and metal. His dad was a huge fan, so Eddie grew up with it. They drifted apart once Kat and Luna became friends and by sophomore year, they hadn't spoke in a long time.
Luna missed him though. Every so often he'd cross her mind. She thought maybe they'd cross paths again at some point, but now they're both seniors and no acquaintances has been made. She'd see him almost every day however, passing each other in the corridors. During lunch, and they even had a couple of classes together throughout the years.
Luna stared up at the table where he sat with his friends. His hair was longer now. His short curls had grew into slight frizzy locks. He wore his dad's old vintage leather jacket with patches decorating it. The patches of all the different bands from the 70s and 80s his dad collected when he was in his youth. Luna realized that she had been staring for a little too long, and just like that, as if he was reading her mind Eddie's eyes looked at her.
He glanced away for a moment before he looked back at her. Luna sat up straight, slightly frozen about her next actions. Eddie continued to conversate with his friends - Patrick and Nathan - who he befriended over the past couple of years. As he sat slumped down in the chair he kept staring over with a small smirk growing on his face.
"Oh my god he's looking over here!" Elliot quickly spoke snapping Luna out of her trance.
"What? Do you think he remembers you?!" Wyatt nearly lunged over the table to shake Kyle's arm. "You really didn't give him a polite look earlier."
"Shut up, stop freaking out!" Kyle told his friends with wide eyes. "He's...I think he's looking at you." He then softened his tone as he turned to his sister.
Luna looked up and frowned a little. "No...no he's not. He isn't going to do anything to you okay? Just leave him alone." She told the boys.
