Later that day.
Luna collected her belongings from her locker before she left the school building. She walked across the school yard towards the football fields and the bleachers. The shouting and cheers could be heard from the football jerks and cheerleaders.
She stopped and looked onto the field as she watched everyone participate in practice. Squinting a little with the sun, she turned to the bleachers and her eyes scanned row from row until they landed on tall, dark and mysterious.
She smiled as she made her way up the steps. Eddie turned to her and watched her walk towards him as he smiled.
"Y'know for someone who hates these people, you sure do love to hang out here." Luna told him as she yanked his dark sunglasses from his head and slid them onto her face. Her vision darkening with the lenses, making everything more cynical looking. No more green grass, light blue sky and the bright colors of the uniforms had turned a dark brown color.
"It's them that ruin it. This has been our spot for years." Eddie looked at her with narrowed eyes and a smile.
"Our spot was our middle school bleachers. That's very different from this cookie cutter high school shit." Luna told him as she sighed a little.
"I cannot agree with you more!" Eddie nodded. "I didn't think you had such a strong opinion."
"I don't mind school. I don't like the people. Apart from a very few exceptions." Luna turned to him. "Y'know the cool guys." She smiled.
A smile tugged on Eddie's lips as he nodded. "Yeah, and we're so cool! Y'know the guys and I!" He mocked a little as he opened out his arms and pulled her into him and held her tight. He squeezed her more which made her gasp a little.
"You're literally cutting off my breathing, let go." Luna giggled as she broke free from his grip and took a deep breath.
Eddie stared at her as he fixed pieces of hair around her face.
"Why are you staring at me?" Luna asked.
"Because I want too. You're so pretty." He told her softly as he dropped his hand from her hair and smiled.
Luna's cheeks burned as she glanced at her feet for a moment before she took a deep breath. "About what happened the other night...?" She began.
"It's okay, we don't have to talk about that - it's forgotten." Eddie quickly told her, as he nervously moved around before shaking his head. He darted his eyes around the places as he sighed. Was he nervous?
"I don't want to forget about it Eddie." Luna quickly told him.
Eddie stared at her with wide eyes.
"I'm sorry." He quietly told her. "I didn't mean to freak you out..." He began.
"What - No. You didn't freak me out, Eddie. I was...surprised?" She told him as she looped her arm around his and stared at him. "I mean, wouldn't you be?"
"Yes." Eddie carefully nodded as he looked at her. "Yeah, I would be I'm not going to lie." He sighed. He then looked away from her as he thought before he stuck his tongue out and ran it across his top lip curiously. "Then again...I would have a different reaction if we didn't get interrupted." He told her.
Luna stared at him. She was actually glad she had sunglasses on right now, she could only imagine what her eyes looked like. Shocked. Scared.
They both looked onto the field as they sat in silence for a few minutes.
"I mean..." Luna began. "What would've happened if we weren't...interrupted?" She asked him quietly as her eyes burned into one section of the field, scared to even look at him.
Eddie scoffed as she felt him shrug. For a moment her heart sank, before he lifted his arm and took her hand and squeezed it. "Promise you won't freak out?" He asked her.
Luna shook her head as she turned and looked at him as he continued to stare straight ahead.
"I would've kissed the fuck out of you." He took a shaky breath before he looked at her. His dark eyes burrowed into her own intensely. Luna stared at him as her mouth fell open slightly, she then burst out laughing as she fell onto him.
Eddie began to laugh too. "Why are you laughing? It's not funny!" He told her.
Luna couldn't help it as she burst into a fit of giggles. She lay across Eddie's lap as she held her arms tight against her body as she couldn't contain her laughter. Eddie shook his head as she sighed.
"Can't tell you anything dude, it's a joke." He commented as he chuckled and looked straight ahead.
Once Luna got her bearings, she sat up and cleared her throat. "No, I'm sorry. I honestly don't know what I found funny. I'm sorry, please continue - " She coughed a little.
"You laugh like that when you're nervous, Luna." Eddie smirked at her.
He was right.
"You're right. You can't joke like that!" She told him.
"I was being serious." He looked at her. "Why are you nervous? It's only me. Unless it's me you're nervous around." He told her quietly as he scanned her face.
Luna quickly looked away from him as she began to laugh again. "What?! No, I'm not..." She shook her head. Eddie tried to turn her back around to face him by softly taking her arms and shoulders but she kept pulling away as they laughed.
"Then look at me Luna, look me in the eyes." Eddie told her.
"Yes! Okay, I am." She quickly told him as she turned and stared.
She watched as he scoffed in slight disbelief as he shook his head. "What? Why are you - "
" - Because! I get nervous because..." Luna cut him off but she couldn't get the words out. She shook her head and sighed. "This is crazy." She told herself out loud. Eddie turned her face before he slid his sunglasses up onto her head and smiled. His eyes had softened as it looked like he was searching for something. The skin between his eyebrows creased into a little line as he furrowed his brows together.
He cupped his hands around her face and stared at her. Luna's tummy filled with butterflies as she tried to stop herself from getting up and running away.
"Tell me." He whispered.
"You'll laugh at me. I can't lose you...I can't lose our friendship again." She told him.
"I promise." He nodded.
"I like you." Luna told him.
"Well I hope so? I mean it would be pretty shit after all these years, you didn't..." Eddie chuckled.
"No, Eddie. I like you." Luna whispered and in a blink of an eye, Eddie's face changed. He was relieved. He dropped his head down as he took a breath and let out a deep sigh before he looked back at Luna and grinned.
"Oh thank god." He chuckled. He then brought her face closer to his before she pulled her head back and gasped.
"No wait, not here!" She quickly told him.
"Oh, here's me thinking you didn't care what people thought..." Eddie dropped his hands to his lap and sighed.
"No, I don't mean that. I couldn't care, I just...can we talk? Properly, after school?" She asked him.
