It was the end of the school day as Luna was packing books into her backpack. Her thought process wandered to homework she had, where her brother was to Eddie. Her eyes flickered over the old metal locker before they landed towards the back. In a little pocket on the shelf she had up since freshman year was some old photographs.
Old photo booth polaroid's of Eddie and her. She could still remember that moment clear as day, just like every day they had spent together that summer before freshman year. There wasn't a day wasted, they were always doing something. Spending days at the arcade, at her house, going to the movies and devouring pizza afterwards.
Eddie always loved double pepperoni with jalapenos if you could believe. Her eyes stuck to the photo of the two of them posing like crazy people and she let out a quiet laugh at how Eddie stood proud with his fist in the air. It was also that summer she made him watch a ton of old 80s movies. He got rather obsessed with the breakfast club. He said he could relate to Judd Nelsons character.
She glanced to the locker beside her and sighed. School mornings aren't much fun anymore without his aggressive humor taking over. She then continued to zip her bag up as she looked at a few people who passed her. Her eyes caught onto two people walking towards her. It was Eddie and Patrick.
Patrick seemed like a cool guy. He seemed pretty quiet, until someone pissed him off. She could see how they become friends, they matched. Patrick was fiddling about with his books as he passed them to an obviously irritated Eddie. As Luna tore her eyes away from them, he looked up and spotted her. Luna cleared her throat as she swung her bag over a shoulder before she glanced back up.
As the boys walked past her Eddie grinned. "Martin." He simply said her surname. Patrick looked at her and gave her a polite head nod before they were off down the corridor. Luna smiled as he let out a relieved chuckle.
"Hey! There you are." Kat's voice squawked behind her into her ear.
"I thought you took off without me." She told her as she opened her own locker beside Luna's. "Did I just see Eddie Munson speaking to you?" She then asked with a smile.
"No, he said hi? I'm not really sure..." Luna admitted as she closed over his own locker and sighed.
"Damn, after all these years you're still pining over the dude." Kat giggled as she grabbed her belongings.
"I have not!" Luna told her off.
"I don't mean it in a bad way! The two of you were best friends...I may have not seen your blossoming friendship before we became friends but you two have some serious chemistry. I've witnessed it a lot over the past four years." Kat told her. She looked at Luna's wallowing reaction before she sighed.
"I don't understand why you two...stopped being friends?" She asked.
"We grew apart." Luna stated. "People grow apart, it happens in life. Do you need a ride home?" She then quickly changed the subject.
"Please." Kat smiled weakly. "Come on, let's go find the brotherhood." Luna nodded.
As the girls walked into the parking lot they spotted Kyle and his friends by Luna's car. They stood rather stuck to the ground as they avoided eye contact with Eddie who was walking past them. Obviously Luna couldn't see his face, but the boys looked everywhere but at him. She then frowned as she walked over.
"You okay?" She quickly asked.
"I'm fine." Kyle mumbled as he shrugged.
"Has Eddie said anything to you?" She then asked with wide eyed. Kyle's eyes flickered over his friends before sighing.
"No. He hasn't...yet." Kyle swallowed. His tone sounding genuine.
"You guys don't need to be afraid of him, it's not who he is." Luna sighed as she unlocked her car and opened the door.
"Are you sure about that? Everyone says he's crazy." Wyatt asked.
"It's bullshit." Luna glanced over to Kat and rolled her eyes. Kat smiled at her as she shrugged. "Well, I call shotgun!" She then called out before climbing into the passenger side.
"You always get shotgun." Kyle groaned as he moved into the back with the guys.
"Oh hush now children, adults ride in the front." Kat laughed.
"You could sit next to me Kat." Wyatt grinned at her as she stared at him through the mirror, she then turned to Luna with wide eyes. Luna turned her key as the engine came to life below them, she then shook her head and snorted.
