Luna sat in the canteen, her free period coming to an end. It was just before lunch and the smell of the cafeteria food was making its way up her nostrils. She'd finally finished her last essay for English and now most of her school work was also coming to an end.
Prom was a week away.
Graduation was a couple of months.
Her phone buzzed on the table beside her and she glanced at it to see a message from her mom and then Kat.
Kat had been on a mission for a prom dress for weeks and even dragged Luna's mom into it. Luna swiped up on her phone screen and the conversation between her and her mom came alive with a picture of a beautiful vintage looking dress.
It looked more 1950s. It was a dark blue skater skirt, and a sweetheart neckline with fabric to tie around the neck to keep it in place. It had a black belt already sewed on that finished off the look with a little bow.
"Wow." Luna commented out loud.
' Not really 80s but I saw this and thought you'd love it? 🥰 ' Her mom wrote.
' I love it! Think you found my perfect dress mom! 🖤 '
' Amazing! I'll get it ordered, I also found one I think Kathleen will like 🤭 '
' Also! You have an envelope sitting at home with your name on it. A big brown envelope! 😏 '
Luna grinned as she typed away on her phone. College acceptance letters were starting to make their rounds. It was going to be New York or Portland. She kind of hoped Portland would take her, that way she'd still be able to see Eddie.
A hand sat two tickets down in front of her as she glanced at them. The words senior prom written on them. She smiled before she realized a varsity jacket was attached to the hand that sat them on the table.
Luna glanced up to see Jason Carver staring at her.
"Two tickets for A Luna Martin." He nodded before swiping through her name on a clipboard.
"Um, thanks...Jason." She nodded before she continued to type on her phone. Once she sent another text to her mom, she looked back up to see he hadn't left.
"Is there anything else I can do for you?" She asked as she slowly sat her phone down.
"There's word going around you're going to prom with the freak Munson?" He asked her as he frowned. "Not that it's a secret, the two of you have been all over each other for the past couple months."
Luna took a breath. "Excuse me, I'd appreciate it if you didn't call Eddie names. It has nothing to do with you or anyone else." She nodded.
"I care for the safety of students and - "
" - Safety?! He's not a criminal Jason! He is one of the most kind hearted people you could ever meet. Trust me, I've known him a lot longer than anyone in this school." She narrowed her eyes.
Jason's frown softened as he sighed. "Look, Luna...there was a time where we could've had something." He sat down beside her and put his hand on top of hers. "Just because we've went our separate ways, doesn't mean I don't care about you."
Luna stared at their hands before she took her own back.
"Sophomore year was a long time ago. We were never a thing. We're part of two different worlds, Jason. You've got your team and I've got mine." She smiled. "Besides, now you and Chrissy are together...you have no reason to worry about me."
Jason stared at her as he nodded before sighing.
"What's going on here?" A deep raspy voice made them turn around to see Eddie standing frowning at Jason.
