Josh's P.O.V.
I squeezed Shane's hand reassuringly, after making it official and finally accepting who my mate was I couldn't have been any happier.
The moon goddess paired us for a reason and I was going to love him no matter what!
I was over the moon ecstatic and couldn't wait to tell the pack, my family, and most importantly the little healer! For some unknown reason her opinion mattered to me the most I wouldn't be able to live with the fact she wasn't happy with this. Shane was her friend and if she didn't like us being together I don't know what I would do.
Yet, the moment we arrived to the pack house our happiness diminished. Seeing the little healer even Ryder laying unresponsive and motionless in a hospital bed attached to many different wires, well that was a sight I wish I hadn't seen.
I couldn't believe I was gone for the war, how could I have been so careless and left without...without thinking first!
Maybe this wouldn't have happened...maybe if I would have been there to help Ryder and to protect the little healer none of this would have happened.
I couldn't help but blame myself, I could have been there, I could have been there...
"Stop I know what your thinking." I averted my attention from the little healer and turned to Shane.
"How could you possibly know?"
"You don't have to be a rocket science to see how guilty you look, there's nothing you could have done... Things happen for a reason. Look at us you think this just happened out of nowhere? Were mates because someone thought we would be perf together and boy were they right!"
I couldn't help but chuckle at his response.
A beep echoed around the room making us go silent.
The little healer...
It couldn't be, she was okay she had to be okay!
I quickly rushed to her side shaking her pale body. Why was she so pale?! What do I do?!
I started to perform CPR waiting for a reaction. Another beep filled the silent room, I turned around and watched Ryder's heart monitor go flat.
I quickly went to his side doing the same thing I did to the little healer. I continued to go back and forth in desperation not knowing what else to do!
"Sir, were going to need you to step out of the way!"
The pack doctor and his assistants pushed me out of the room giving me no to time to react. I stood in the doorway with the door closed for who knows how long until shane genlty pulled me away.
I leaned against the wall and dropped letting tears flow down my face.
