Raven was quiet, too quiet. She had been sitting on the bed reading for the past hour. Damian had been saved one day earlier and she had felt fine after that until then. The sex probably helped, they couldn't go through these sort of situations without doing it apparently.
Jason Blood was a powerful foe. She may have gotten lucky this time in beating him. He was an attention seeker for Trigon. One time in hell he apparently spent an entire day just destroying stuff for Trigon that he found meaningless. Promised a planet to rule, yet he walked away with a new spell he used to charge his phone.
Raven didn't care about how pathetic he was; it didn't make him any less dangerous. Kidnapping Damian was actually a much bigger feat than he may have realised. Even if Damian was in the state that he was, he was still under Raven's protection through their bond and her simply being there.
Raven had taught Damian all sorts of ways to counter magic. It was necessary for the reasons that they were dealing with now: he was a target of Trigon and his minions too if he was her boyfriend. This was actually a condition they made when beginning their relationship. He was still taken.
"Raven?!" She heard loudly. Zoning out was not something she typically did and Damian just had to snap her out of it for the first time.
"O-oh sorry, Dami." Raven apologised looking at him as he stood next to the side of the bed she was on.
"You alright?" Damian asked, concern evident on his face.
"Fine. Just thinking a lot."
"About me?"
"You know I always am." Raven said flirtatiously.
"Good to know, but I'm referring to what happened yesterday. You've been quiet since this morning." Damian enquired.
Raven looked down and closed her book. She prepared herself for the serious conversation that awaited.
"I couldn't protect you. It was a very powerful magic user and I should've been by your side when he took you. Instead I was on the roof and ate his threat up without thinking about what he could do to you." Raven explained.
Raven looked up to see Damian's face. She half expected a hint of anger because he doesn't like to be worried about. To her surprise, she was greeted with a smile. A warm and genuine smile.
"What?"
"Oh nothing. I just thought that I'm lucky to have someone who cares and worries." Damian said as he knelt down to eye level with Raven.
"You said you don't like it when people worry about you...?" Raven said with a slightly confused face.
"Different when it comes to you, Beloved." Damian told her before kissing Raven on the forehead. "I understand where you're coming from. I'd be worried about you too if it'd been the other way around, but you risked yourself for me without even thinking about it and so I'm grateful."
"You make it sound like you thought I wouldn't do that." Raven said with a bored looking face. Fake of course. She was really very happy.
"Oh I knew you would, I'm just thought I'd emphasise how much I love you for it." Damian explained.
"That all you love me for?" Raven teased. A smirk becoming visible on her face.
"That and a long list of other things that probably doesn't end." Damian told Raven confidently.
"Good, but it can't be as long as my list for you." Raven said boldly.
"Mhm." Damian said sarcastically.
"Anyway," Raven started after shaking her head with a smile. "I just wish I could've kept you out of danger. I do worry about you and it's hard to not worry. I worry because I love you. I just don't want that to happen again, he's powerful." Raven explained to Damian.
By now Damian had pulled Raven into an extremely passionate kiss. One that she reciprocated with all her might.
"I feel the same. I'm trying to keep the League from taking you as much as possible and it's impossible not to worry. I know what the League can do and if they did it to the person I love most then it would hurt so much." Damian confessed to her. He hadn't often spoke of what the League can do to something or someone they consider valuable. Just that it involved torture of some kind.
"That's not gonna happen, don't worry." This time it was Raven's turn to initiate the kiss. It was a longer and more gentle one that they both felt relieved their worries a bit. "I love you."
"I know. I love you too." They smiled at each other for a long time, taking comfort in the peace between them.
"Make sure you're dressed next time someone bad shows up tho."
"Oh fucking hell."
