I crossed my legs as I sat beside him in front of the fireplace also. He didn't move and looked ahead like he had been before.

"Malfoy.." I spoke hesitantly, peering at him. He looked at me blankly, then moved his head away as to not see me from his peripheral vision, fiddling with his wand.

I could not even bare to imagine, how much the dark mark must have hurt. It is like.. like he was holding his arm down to not move it, otherwise it would cause more pain.

I was nervous, as my hand rested on his shoulder. "Draco,"

He turned his head back to look me in the eyes. He was slouched, so he was not that much taller than me anymore.

"It's okay," I wanted to reassure him, be there for him. My hand went down to his and I held it between my two hands.

His hands were cold, his long fingers wrapped around mine, but did not tighten. He was startled, and I could tell, nervousness written upon his face as his eyebrows furrowed together, like he was thinking about his next move.

He leaned his head in a bit, and I was startled myself. "The easy way would just be listening to them and going, wouldn't it?" He asked, pulling up his sleeve with his free hand.

I looked down as it swirled slowly but unnoticeably. "Because I always take the easy way.." he continued.

I looked up but he was still looking down at his forearm.

"It's not the easy way.. it's a hard way." I whispered. He didn't answer and didn't move.

"You think it's easy? To go against everything you believe in? To murder innocent people?" I continued.

"It's all I've ever known, y/n." He slurred, snapping his eyes back to mine. I looked into his eyes intently.

"All I've ever known is going against good. All I've ever seen is innocent people being tortured or killed," his fingers still didn't tighten around mine. He spoke with slight venom and disdain upon his features.

"Don't let it be like that anymore," I offered, pausing for any sort of response. My hand that rested on the back of his went to pull up his sleeve and he almost pulled back.

"You are too good, so hide while you still can." He whispered, letting me go, to look back at the fireplace.

I sat next to him in silence, just hearing the crackling of the fire.

"We'll fail our assignment.. since nobody is attending to it." He said to me, or almost to himself.

"With what is happening, the last thing on your mind should be our assignment." I answered.

He smirked, almost sneered. "It's the only normal thing in my life right now."
