She slept, her head resting on my thigh as my legs were still crossed, looking ahead at the burning fire.

It never went out, and it was something I could actually depend on.

Greengrass had come down the stairs in the morning, looking at me then Y/l/n. I sighed, carrying her up to her dorm and putting her down in her bed as she still slept.

My eyes lingered over her for too long than I had intended, I could practically feel her friends eyes from behind me.

She must have been uncomfortable with her shoes on. And so, I took them off quickly, placing them beside her bed.

"Anything else, Malfoy? Maybe give her a kiss like Sleeping Beauty and Prince Charming?" She mused from behind me. I scoffed, my fingers tracing along her soft green covers. I did not want to leave.

"Stay safe." I wished her friends quietly. They smiled, nodding, wishing the same to me as I exited to my own room.

When I reached my bed, I slept straight away, Blaise watching over Theo and I until the evening before dinner. There was no school, it was cancelled for the day.

We were soon let out for a quick and quiet dinner, Theo let me know when he woke me up and I nodded. Still in the clothes from the night before, I did not have the energy to change and act like I was happy or willing, anymore.

We were all let out at once, the corridors crowded where you could only shuffle a few steps before stopping.

I found Diggory staring and I trailed his eyes to Y/n who spoke to her friends quietly. They soon walked a bit head.

I shuffled over to her and her eyes found mine. The chatter of the crowd was loud, that I almost couldn't hear myself think. I was towering her, now realising just how tall I really was.

I bent down to her. "Stay beside me." I was scared that she would reject my offer.

Her eyes narrowed just slightly, and she nodded, turning away after I straightened my back.

I didn't mind protecting her, I didn't mind doing one good thing before it all crumbled to the floor. For some reason I wanted to protect her and I was going to do just that.

My friends sat with hers and we ate in an odd silence, along with everyone else in the Great Hall, afraid for what would come next. She sat across from me, looking down at her food.

"I feel it, do you?" Theo asked from beside me, whispering. I nodded, closing my eyes in annoyance.

"What's important," Blaise whispered, "is that we do not give in, or it will be our final downfall."

I opened my eyes, looking away to the doors of the Great Hall, trying to distract myself from the constant pulse.

The doors were closed, as McGonagall wanted all of us to leave together and not separately, where we may be snatched from the corridor.

Of course, that's not exactly what she said.. but I knew what she meant.
