I guessed that I wasn't alone when I heard footsteps follow behind me.
I turned around preparing for Diggory to attack me with questions or requests, but instead Draco's chest banging into me.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, taking a step back to look up at his tall frame.
"Like I said," he paused, crossing his arms as he looked down on me. "I'm not going to let you be alone through these empty halls."
I nodded, accepting already that I wouldn't be left alone and we started walking again, beside each other to McGonagall's office.
All we had left was one more flight of stairs, but my eyes quickly caught a dark shadow down the halls, making me stop in my tracks, and taking out my wand. Draco did the same as me, pointing it to where I saw the shadow.
But it must have moved, because it was suddenly behind us.
"Sectumsempra!" They yelled, their voice muffled behind a black mask. They clearly aimed for Draco, and not me, and got him good as we had no time to turn around to block it.
Before I could attack them, they had already ran off into the shadows. Draco collapsed to the floor.
"Draco.." I couldn't find the words. He collapsed to the floor but stood on his knees, holding his slashed torso from bleeding out.
I guessed that the shadow was a death eater, going after Draco for not joining the dark side again and following his fathers instructions.
I held him up, trying to think quick of what to do.
"Infirmary," I muttered, helping him up to his feet to walk him down the stairs again.
"Stay with me, and keep your eyes open," I huffed, feeling his warm blood seep into my clothes. We made our way slowly down the stairs, I noticed his eyes slowly closing.
"If you don't keep them open until we reach the infirmary, who will protect me?" I urged, trying to get him to use the last of his strength. He chuckled as we reached the bottom of the steps, blood spitting out onto the floor.
"I know you can protect yourself.. that was just a poor excuse of mine to be with you." He admitted hoarsely, looking dead ahead, the colour slowly draining from his face.
We reached the infirmary doors, and I led him to the nearest bed. "Madam Pomfrey! Help!" I called out, and she quickly scurried out to see what my pleas were about, gasping at the sight of Draco.
"Not again Mr Malfoy.." she muttered, quickly going to collect all the necessities she needed to help him.
"I'm afraid so.." he muttered, laying down on the bed as his blood slowly seeped into the white sheets. He groaned at the pain.
She came, setting down all her potions on his bedside table.
"Ms Y/l/n, be a dear and help your friend take off his shirt while I get this sorted." She ordered me as she turned away to get some of the last things she needed.
I approached him and he looked to the side in clear pain. I unbuttoned his bloodied and slashed shirt as quickly but carefully as I could, and his hand had come up to reach gently on top of mine as I undid the rest of his buttons.
