chapter 21: ohhhh lover boy

Eddie ~
We get back to Steve's house and walk in. "Dying is exhausting." I say rubbing my eyes. "Stop joking about that. I watched you die Eddie! And you're acting like it's no big deal." Steve exclaimed. "I'm here aren't I? Chill Stevie." I respond, while grabbing some pizza from the fridge. The truth is, I was using humor to forget the absolute terror I felt when I first got attacked. I was scared. Terrified. "Eddie? Are you okay?" Steve asked. "Oh um.. yeah, all good." I answer. "Are you sure? Come sit down." Steve patted the couch cushion next to him.

I sat down and looked at him. "I was so scared." I say while fidgeting with my rings. "I know Eddie. I was too." Steve replied. "It happened so fast. Oh and I didn't mean the 6 kids part. I was dying and ya know." I say playfully. I look over at Steve. "Hey are you alright?" I ask. His eyes looked weird. Like the pizza delivery guy last night. "Steve?" I run over to the phone and call Henderson.

"HENDERSON! SOMETHING'S GOING ON WITH STEVE. HIS EYES LOOK WEIRD AND HE'S NOT RESPONDING TO ANYTHING!" I scream into the phone. "EDDIE! DO YOU HAVE ANY MUSIC? HIS FAVORITE SONG?" Henderson asks. I look over at the table. "UM YEAH HANG ON." I run over to the table in front of Steve and grab the walkman.

I see the song that's in there and put it over his ears. I hear someone bust through the door and it's the kids. They all run over to Steve and start yelling. "STEVE! COME ON GET OUT OF THERE!" Henderson yells. "STEVE!" Wheeler screams. "He can't hear you." Max says. "When he got me, you said you guys were yelling. I didn't hear you." She added.

Steve ~
Eddie sits down next to me and starts telling me how he was really scared. "I know Eddie, I was too." I respond. "Why were you scared Steve? You just stood there and let me die." Eddie said. "You know that's not true Eddie." I stand up and start to back up. "You wanted me to die didn't you?" Eddie asked. His eyes looked like Max's did. Vecna.  I start running. I run out of the door and see myself in this dark red place.

"You think you can run from me Steve?" Vecna asks. "Leave me the hell alone!" I yell. Vines wrap around me and I get thrown against a wall. "LEAVE ME ALONE!" I scream. I hear my favorite song playing. Dancing in the dark. "They can't help you Steve, it's time. Time to join me." Vecna says as he puts his hand over my face. I charge past him and start running. I see Eddie and the kids huddled around me in the living room. I run through this portal thing and fall. Eddie catches me and holds me. "Steve?" Eddie looks down at me.

"I- I'm alive?" I ask. I look around with tears in my eyes. "Steve are you okay?" Max asks. I sit up and try to comprehend what just happened. "He's alive." I say. "We know. Hopper and El are dealing with him as we speak." Henderson said. "What did he say to you?" Eddie asked. "Um.. he said t-that I just stood there and let you die and that um.. and that I wanted you to die. I swear I didn't I-" Eddie interupted me. "I know, love." He assured me. "I know."

Eddie ~
The kids said their goodbyes and left. "Steve, did he say anything else?" I asked while stroking his hair. "He said something about 'it's time to join me'." He replied. "I'm so sorry Steve." I said. No response. "Steve?" I looked down and he was asleep. He has had a long day. I got up and laid his head down on a pillow and covered him up with a blanket.

I kissed his forehead and walked to the kitchen. I think Mrs. Harrington is at work so that's why she's not here. I grabbed a cup and filled it up with a glass of water and set it on the table in front of Steve. I call Joyce. "Hey. Is Hopper out yet?" I whisper, trying not to wake Steve. "Yeah, I heard about what happened with Steve. Is he okay?" She replied.

"He's had a really long day. He's asleep right now." I respond, still whispering. "Okay well, if anything happens at all, you call me okay?" Joyce replies. "Okay." I respond and hang the phone back up. I look back over at the couch and Steve isn't there. "Steve?" I call out. I walk to the bathroom and he wasn't in there. I walk upstairs and check the other bathroom. I knock on the door. "Steve? You in there?" I ask before opening the door. "Finally. Are you okay?" I ask walking up to him at the sink. "Oh yeah um I'm alright. Just washing my face." He replied wiping the tears off of his cheeks.

"Steve. You're okay now. I've got you." I say while hugging him. "It's just that, he's not going to stop." Steve replies. "Hopper and El stopped him. We're okay. We're gonna be okay." I wiped the tears from his face and placed my hands on his cheeks. "You know what we're going to do? We're gonna snatch our diploma right out of principal Higgins' hand's and then we're gonna run like hell out of there! And then you know, travel, have 4 little nuggets, settle back down in Hawkins." I said, smiling. "6. And Hawkins? Really?" He replied.

"We'll have to talk about that." I said with a laugh. I walked him back downstairs sat him down on the couch. "Three weeks Harrington. Three weeks until sweet, sweet freedom." I say while standing up and dancing. "Oh so we're dancing now?" Steve asked playfully. I grabbed his hand and pulled him up. "Yeah did you not know, Mr. Harrington?" I asked playfully, pulling him towards me.

"I did not, Mr. Munson." He said while smiling. He kissed me and started to dance again. "We've gotta start packing soon." Steve says. "Pfft three weeks is enough time. We've got time lover boy." I say while smiling at him. "So that's my new name?" He asks playfully. "Yes it is." I say, with the biggest smile plastered on my face. "I love you, Munson." Steve says. "I love you too, lover boy." I reply. "OHH COME ONNNN. I WAS TRYING TO HAVE A MOMENT HERE!" Steve yells, smiling. I burst out laughing.

"Damn, take a breath Munson." Steve says while laughing. "No you take a breath, lover boy." I say still wheezing. Steve gives me a death glare. "Okay, okay, I'll stop. Lover boy." I burst into laughter again. "I SWEAR TO GOD EDDIE MUNSON IF YOU DONT STOP CALLING ME THAT." Steve yells. "What are you gonna do lover boy?" I was laughing so hard tears formed in my eyes. I wiped them.

"Eds." Steve says, trying his best not to laugh. I raise my eyebrows and look at him. "What did you just call me?" I ask, tackling him to the ground and tickling him. "AHH STOP! STOP ITTTTT!" He yells while laughter fills the air. Steve grabs a pillow and throws it at me, I roll over next to him and smile. "Lover boy." I say. "Eds." He replies with a smile. He grabs my hand and starts to laugh.  God, how did I live without him before we met?
