chapter 27: shut it, munson

Steve ~
I wake up to the sound of my alarm blaring in my ear. I get up and put one of my nice shirts on and, do my hair. "Eddie! Get up, we're gonna be late for our job interview's!" I yell, throwing a pillow at him. "I'm up, I'm up, jeez." He says, rubbing his eyes. While Eddie gets ready upstairs, I go downstairs and get a cup of coffee. "Remember, be very polite, do you start today if you get hired?" My mom asked. "Yeah." I reply, sipping my coffee.

Eddie runs downstairs. "Are you ready?" I ask. "Yup." He replies while grabbing the keys and tossing them in the air, before catching them. We walk out to the car and he starts driving. "So am I dropping you off or?" Eddie asked. "Yeah that's fine." I reply, rolling the window down. I let the cool morning air hit my face. "You okay, love?" He asks. "Just nervous." I reply. "You're definitely gonna get it. Don't worry." He assured me.

He parks in the parking lot and kisses me before I walk in. "Hey dingus." Robin says, waving. "Hey Robin." I reply, walking to the counter. "So I talked to the manager, he said to let you know that you're hired. I have to teach you some stuff but you should catch on pretty quickly." Robin says. "Okay." I reply. She hands me my name tag and I hook it to my shirt.

Robin explained how to check movies in and out. She also showed me how to organize the tapes in alphabetical order. "See? I told you, pretty easy." She says while walking behind the counter. I walk next to her and see the first customer. It's Jason. "Small world, Harrington." He says while walking up. I give Robin a look and start walking to the break room. "Awe, is little Steve scared?" He asks. I turn around and walk back up to him.

"How's your nose?" I ask, crossing my arms.

He gets quiet and walks to the horror movie section. "Damn, Harrington." Robin whispered, sitting in a chair behind me. "He had it coming." I whisper back. The phone starts ringing. I walk over and answer it. "Family video store, this is Steve, how may I help you?" I ask into the phone. "You sound so professional." Eddie replies. "Oh my god. You got it?" I ask. "They were begging me to work for them." He replies, jokingly.

Another customer walks in. "Hey I gotta go, when do you get off?" I ask. "5. You?" He asks. "8. You can go home after if you want." I reply. "I don't mind Steve. Oh I have to go. Bye." He hangs the phone up. "Hi. Do you guys have any romance movies?" A girl asks, walking up to the counter.

"Um, yeah over there." Robin points at the romance section. The girl nods and walks away. Jason walks back up to the counter and sets two movies on the counter. I start typing on the computer and scan them. "$7.87." I say. He hands me the money and I push the movies towards him.

He grabs them and walks out as fast as he can. "Jason is scared of you?" Robin asked with a laugh. "I guess so." I say, shrugging my shoulders. The girl from before walks back up to the counter and sets a movie down. I start typing again and I grab the movie and scan it. "So um, I have a question." The girl said. "$3.85. What can I help you with?" I ask. "Oh um, do you want to go on a date?" She asks, handing me the money.

I look over at her and hear Robin snickering behind me. "Um, so I'm actually dating someone-" "Me. He's dating me. I understand why you would want to go on a date with him though. He's pretty hot." Eddie says, walking next to her. "I-i have to go." She says, grabbing her movie and running out of the door. I check my watch. It's 7:50. Robin starts to laugh. "I honestly don't blame her." Eddie says, laughing. "It's the hair." I say, snickering.

Our laughs get interupted when I see the kids running in. "Steve, we need a movie." Henderson says. "A good one." Mike adds. "Preferably scary." Max says. I pointo to the horror movies and they run over. They start arguing over which movie to watch. Eddie sees that I'm frustrated and starts laughing. I walk over to them and grab a movie and hand it to them.

"Stop arguing. You're scaring my customers." I say, walking back to the counter. Henderson places it in front of me and I scan it. "Do you even have money?" I ask. "Well, we were hoping -" "No! you're not getting free movies out of this!" I exclaim putting my hands on my hips. "Pleaseeeee." Dustin says. "Fine. You guys better have it back by tomorrow." I say, pinching the bridge of my nose.

Eddie ~
I drop Steve off and drive to the record store. Once I get there, I park and walk in. "Hey Eddie! You here for the job?" Gareth asked. He was in hellfire with me. "Yeah." I answer. "Let me go get my manager." He says, walking through a door. A woman walks out. "You're hired. You're here a lot so you know how it goes?" She asks. "Oh yeah. The records are sorted in alphabetical order, I know how to scan them already." I answer.

"Great! well, I have somewhere to be. Gareth, help him if he needs it." She says, walking out of the door. "Okay. I usually sit and wait for people to come in. I have a bunch of magazines." Gareth said. "Oh, okay man." I reply, sitting down. "Can I call people?" I ask. "Oh sure! I do it all the time. But, the first customer that walks in is yours okay?" He asks. I nod and dial the number to the video store to see if Steve got the job.

"Family video store, this is Steve, how may I help you?" Steve asks into the phone. "You sound so professional." I respond. "Oh my god. You got it?" Steve asked. "They were begging me to work for them." I say, jokingly. "Hey I gotta go. When do get off?" Steve asked. "5. You?" I ask. "8. You can go home after if you want." Steve replies. I see a customer walk in. "I don't mind Steve. Oh, I have to go. Bye." I hang the phone up. "Hey! Need any help?" I ask. "Do you have any Beatles?" She asks.

"Right here." I say, walking over to a box filled with Beatles songs. "Oh thank you!" She says, walking over. I walk over to the discount box and start sorting the records. Another customer comes in. "Hey! I'm looking for some Elvis songs?" He says. "Here's one right here. Andddd, over there." I say, handing him a record and, pointing with my other hand.

The girl walks over to the counter as I keep sorting the records. They both leave and Gareth looks at me. "You wanna close up?" He asks. "Oh uh, sure." I say. He walks out and I walk over to the door and turn the sign over to closed. I keep sorting the records and lose track of time. I check my watch and see that it's 7:30. I grab the keys and run out of the door, locking it and start driving to pick Steve up.

I park and walk inside, to hear "Oh um, do you want to go on a date?" A girl asks Steve, handing him money. "Um, so I'm actually dating someone-" "Me. He's dating me. I understand why you would want to go on a date with him though. He's pretty hot." I interupted him, walking next to her. "I-i have to go." She says, grabbing her movie and running out of the door.

Robin starts to laugh. "I honestly don't blame her." I say, laughing. "It's the hair." Steve adds, snickering. We stop laughing when we see the kids run in. "Steve, we need a movie." Henderson says. "A good one." Wheeler adds. "Preferably scary." Max also adds. Steve points to the horror movies and they run over. They start arguing over which movie to watch. I see Steve start to get aggravated and I start to laugh.

He walks over to them and grabs a movie. He hands it to them. "Stop arguing. You're scaring my customers." He says, walking back to the counter. Henderson places it in front of Steve and he scans it. "Do you even have money?" Steve asks. "Well, we were hoping -" "No! you're not getting free movies out of this!" Steve exclaimed, putting his hands on his hips. He looked hilarious. "Pleaseeeee?" Henderson asks.

"Fine. You guys better have it back by tomorrow." Steve replies, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"There it is. His true sign of frustration."  I say, laughing. "Oh shut it, Munson." Steve replies, giving me a kiss on the cheek. "This is a movie store, not your house." Robin said rolling her eyes. "It's okay to be jealous that you and Nancy aren't as cute as us." I say, playfully. "I'm going home. You closing?" Robin asked Steve. "Yeah." He replies. He waved as she walked outside. He flipped the sign on the door and we walked outside. He locked the door and we walked to the car. "I'm starving." Steve says.
