chapter 46: catch me!

Steve ~
Eddie and I wake up to the alarm blaring in our ears. "You forgot to turn it off?" Eddie asks. I nod. I turn it off and stand up, stretching. Robin walks in, and sees Eddie. "About time." She says. We walk out into the living room and sit on the couch.

I hear a knock at the door. Robin answers it. I walk over to her and see Dustin. "What are you doing here?" I ask, rubbing my eyes. "It's El's birthday. We're going to this roller skating place for her party. She wants you four, to come." Dustin explains.

"Roller skating? I can't roller skate!" I exclaim. "You don't have to skate, just be there. Okay?" Dustin asks. We nod and I shut the door. "We have to get her a present, don't we?" Robin asks, yawning. "She likes eggos." I reply, walking to the freezer. I take the box of waffles out of the freezer and set it on the counter.

I walk back into the bedroom and pull a shirt on. "Hurry up, Steve. You're taking forever." Eddie says, playfully. "Shut up, Munson." I reply, laughing. We walk out to the living room and wait on Robin and Nancy. "I'm not good at skating." I say, randomly. "Steve, are you telling me that you don't know how to roller skate?" Eddie asks. "I um... No. I don't." I reply.

"Then I'll have to teach you." He responds. Robin and Nancy walk outside to the car and we follow them. I run back inside and grab the eggos. I run back outside sit down in the backseat. Eddie gets in next to me. Nancy and Robin get in too. Nancy starts driving. "I can't skate. I have like, terrible coordination. If I fall, you better catch me, Nancy." Robin says.

She laughs a little. "DON'T LAUGH AT ME! IT TOOK ME SIX MONTHS TO LEARN HOW TO WALK THAN ALL OF THE OTHER BABIES!" Robin exclaims. "I'm not, I'm not!" Nancy replies, obviously holding a laugh in. She parks and we all walk in. "EL! THEY'RE HERE!" Max yells, walking over to the roller skating rink. She smiles at us. "Happy birthday, El." Eddie says, handing her a box of eggos.

Her face lights up. "Thank you." She replies. Eddie and I walk over to get some skates. I take my shoes off and slide the skates on. Eddie ties them for me. He slides his on and helps me stand up. "Okay... Now be careful-" I immediately fall. He helps me up. Eddie grabs my hand and starts skating slowly, looking at me everytime he moves. We're about to get on the rink, when I hear a door slam and someone yell. I kick my skates off and run over to see what happened.

Max is sobbing and she runs into a empty room, also slamming the door. "What happened?" I ask. "Lucas kissed Max, and El saw." Will replies. Eddie and I look at each other and he skates to the shut door that El slammed moments earlier. Mike starts telling at Lucas. "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO?!" Mike yells, pushing Lucas. Robin and Nancy pull them apart. I walk to the door Max slammed. I knock. "Max? Can I come in?" I ask. The door opens and I walk in. She shuts the door behind me. "I didn't... I didn't want him to kiss me." Max cries.

"I know. Boys are stupid, Max. I know that better than anyone. You wanna know something?" I ask. She nods and sniffles. "The exact same thing happened to me. I was in school and cheerleader came up and kissed me. Out of nowhere. Eddie saw the whole thing and wouldn't talk to me at all. He didn't know what happened. I had to explain to him that she kissed me. It sucks, right?" I ask, sitting down next to her.

"Yeah. That really happened?" She asks. "Mhm. Didn't even know who she was. You want me to beat up Lucas for you? I could go to jail, but I don't mind." I ask, glancing over at her. "No, it's okay. Thanks, Steve." She replies, wiping her tears away. I help her stand up.

Eddie ~
I knock on the door. "El? It's Eddie. Open the door." I say. She opens it and I walk in. I shut it. "She didn't kiss him back. He kissed her. She didn't want him to. You know, back when me and Steve were in highschool, a cheerleader kissed him. I thought the same thing you're thinking right now. But he didn't want her to kiss him. There's a difference. We can't control what other people do, sadly." I say, looking at her.

"She did not?" El asks. "No. Mike is trying to fight Lucas as we speak! Everyone's mad at him." I say, laughing. She laughs too.

I hear a knock on the door. "It's Max." I hear her say through the door. "Do you want me to open it?" I ask. El nods. I open the door and walk out. Max walks in and shuts the door. I skate over to Steve. "You wanna know what I brought up?" I ask. "The girl that kissed me? I did too." Steve replies, laughing. I laugh too. Lucas walks up to us.

"Sinclair, why haven't you left?" Steve asks, sternly. "I wanted to apologize, to Max. And to El." He replies. "Just leave. No one wants you here, man. You messed up." I respond. He nods and walks outside. Steve taps me on my shoulder. I turn to look at him and he pulls me into a long kiss. "What was that for?" I ask, smiling.

"Because, you were nicer than I would've been." Steve replies. "How generous of you, Stevie." I respond, playfully. "Hate to interrupt, but are they coming back out? Because, I have fallen at least ten times, and everything hurts. I told you to catch me Nancy!" Robin exclaims. "I try to, but then you fall, and take me down with you. I can't catch you if I'm on the ground too!" Nancy replies.

"Eddie can catch me. Watch this." I say, falling backwards. He doesn't catch me. "What did you just do, Harrington?" Eddie asks, giving me a strange look. "You were supposed to catch me!" I exclaim. "Oh sorry. Uh... Can I get a retry?" He asks. Robin and Nancy burst out into laughter.

"At least help me up." I say. He quickly nods, and pulls me up off of the ground. El and Max walk out of the room. They're holding hands. "We did it, Eddie. It worked." Steve says. "We sure did, didn't we?" I reply, smiling.
