chapter 6: getting down in the upside down

Steve ~
After we all climbed down, robin, Henderson, and nance told us to be careful and to go back to hawkins if it goes bad. They left and, me and Eddie looked around. He brought his guitar on his back so we could distract the bats. He started to play master of puppets. I told him to start wrapping up because I could see the bats. "come on let's go!" I said and we started to run and then we saw his trailer so we ran inside.

There was a vent in the roof so i started to stab the bats through the vent and Eddie put his trash can lid on the vent. "Good thinking Eddie." I said as I winked. He looked at me and asked "are there other vents?" " Oh sh-" I got interrupted by the sound of bats flapping their wings. We started to run to the gate in the woods and he climbed up first. I started to climb up and then I stopped. "What are you doing Steve?! Come on!" I climbed back down. "Buying more time." I said.

I used my spear to separate the sheet so he couldn't follow me. I didn't want him to get hurt. I started walking towards the bats. I could hear Eddie screaming at me through the gate but I ignored it. "Come get some you damn bats!" I yelled. They saw me and started to surround me. I stabbed most of them and then they started to eat my sides. I screamed in pain and fell down. I saw Eddie stab the rest of the bats.

I looked to the red, dark sky and thought "This is it. This is how Steve Harrington dies." He ran over to me and picked me up. "Stay with me Harrington. I swear to god you better stay with me. I'm gonna get you to a hospital and it's gonna be okay. It's all gonna be o-" everything went black.

Eddie ~
I start playing master of puppets on my guitar to distract the bats. I play for about a minute before Steve grabs my wrist and yells "come on!" We start running in the other direction and I see my trailer. We run inside and shut the door. We saw the bats trying to come through one of the vents in the roof. He starts to stab them and I grab my shield and plug the vent with it. "Good thinking Eddie." Steve said as he winked.

"Are there anymore vents?" "Oh sh-" Steve was interupted by the sound of wings flapping and the screams of those bats. Steve grabbed my wrist and we started to run back to the gate. We got there and I climbed up first. Steve was climbing up then stopped. "What are you doing Steve?! Come on!" I screamed. I watched him climb back down and say "Buying more time." He cut the sheet in half so I couldn't follow him.

I kept screaming "STEVE COME BACK! PLEASE!" it wasn't long till he was out of my sight so, I jumped on the picnic table and jumped into the gate. I fell into the upside down and saw the bats surrounding him. I ran and started stabbing them and, I looked down and Steve was on the ground with his sides and stomach bleeding. I picked him up and said "Stay with me Harrington. I swear to god you better stay with me. I'm gonna get you to a hospital and it's gonna be okay. It's all gonna be okay. I took my shirt off and tied it around his sides and stomach. I still had my jacket on. I threw what sheet was left through the gate and carried Steve on my shoulders. I climbed back through the gate and back into Hawkins.

I carried him to his car and laid him in the backseat. I got in the driver seat and started driving to the hospital. I would glance back at him almost every minute to make sure he was still alive. I had tears in my eyes as I kept saying "It's gonna be fine. Everything is going to be fine." I don't know if I was trying to convince myself or Steve. I parked and picked him up out of the backseat. He opened his eyes again and looked at me. I could see the pain in his eyes. "It's okay Steve. We're almost there. I'm gonna get you help." I ran to the lobby and yelled "Someone help!" They put him on a gurney and took him back. I waited in the waiting room for what felt like forever with my stained red hands, fidgeting with my rings. I look up to see a doctor standing in front of me.

"We had to perform emergency surgery on him but, he's stable now. Would you like to see him?" "Yes, yes please." He was okay. I followed the doctor into his room and i sat in a chair next to his. "He should wake up any minute. He may be a little loopy though." The doctor left and shut the door. "I'm so glad you're okay." I said while gently stroking his hair.

I held his hand and he opened his eyes. "w-what happened?" He asked. " What happened is you almost killed yourself! What were you thinking?" It must have all came back to him because he started to cry. "Wait. It's okay Steve." "You love me so much that you didn't let me die." I didn't know what to say. It was true. I did fall in love with him. He wasn't in his right state of mind so, he probably didn't mean anything he said. "You're right Steve, I wasn't going to let you die to some demobats! You deserve to go out better than that!" I laughed. He smiled and fell back asleep.
