Steve ~
"Are you sure the suits are-" "Steve, yes. Don't worry! I got this." Eddie replies while I sign the discharge papers. "Hurry up, Steve. We're gonna be late." Nancy says. Her and Robin are already dressed up. "Okay. Done. Let me change." I reply, grabbing the suit that was in a dry cleaning bag, and running into the bathroom. I quickly change into the suit and brush through my hair.
I open the door, attempting to fix my tie. Eddie grabs it and ties it for me. We run out to his van and I start driving. "Does my hair look okay?" Nancy asks, looking at Robin. "It looks good, Nancy." Robin replies. I park. "No kissing. Understand?" I ask. "Yeah, yeah." Eddie responds. Nancy nods. "Robin?" I say, glaring at her.
"Whatever, Harrington." She replies, getting out of the van. Robin and Eddie start walking into the church together. Nancy sighs and we follow behind them. "Just like old times, huh?" I ask, sitting down in a church pew. "Yeah. I guess so." Nancy replies. "You know, we don't have to make this awkward." I say, looking over at her. "It's not! We're good. Let's just get this wedding over with so we can go home." Nancy responds.
"There's also a dinner." I add. "Of course there is." Robin replies, looking back at me. "It's starting. Shut up." I say, looking up to watch the ceremony. After, Nancy and I stand up and walk out. There are floods of people so we got separated from Eddie and Robin. We finally find the dinner table and Nancy sits down. "I'll be right back." I say, walking to the bathroom. I walk in to see Eddie sitting on the ground.
"Hey, you okay?" I ask, sitting down next to him. "Yeah man, just... a lot of people." Eddie replies. I look around to make sure no one was in the bathroom with us. "I don't see anyone." I say, sitting back down. "What?" Eddie asks, confused. I kiss him. He pulls away and looks behind me with a worried look. I turn around and see my uncle, standing in the doorway. I run out of the bathroom.
I look at Nancy and Robin. "We have to go. Now." I glance over my shoulder and see my mom and dad sitting at another table. "What? Why-" "RAISE YOUR CHILD RIGHT! I JUST FOUND STEVEN IN THE BATHROOM KISSING A BOY. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, BRINGING A QUEER INTO THIS FAMILY. MOM AND DAD WOULD BE SO DISAPPOINTED." My uncle screams at my mom.
I hear people snickering and gasping. "MY SON HAS FOUND SOMEONE WHO LOVES HIM. I DID RAISE HIM RIGHT TOM, BECAUSE STEVEN KNOWS HOW TO TREAT PEOPLE NICE. HE KNOWS RIGHTS FROM WRONGS. IF YOU THINK THAT I'M GOING TO STOP LOVING MY SON OVER WHO HE LOVES, YOU ARE MISTAKEN." My mom yells back. Robin stands up and stares him dead in the eyes.
"Steve was raised right. Obviously you weren't, because your laughing at your nephew, for finding someone that loves him. Is your life so miserable that you have to try and ruin Steve's? Honestly, grow up." Robin exclaims. "Steve is the farthest thing from a disappointment. If anything is disappointing, it's the people who are laughing right now. If you don't support Steve, Suck. It. Up. No one asked for your opinion. Enjoy the rest of your damn wedding. Also, your cake looks terrible." Eddie yells, grabbing my hand and pulling me to the van.
"I'm so sorry-" I pull him into a hug. "Thank you." I whisper. "What?" He asks, confused. "For yelling at my uncle." I add. "Oh. Yeah, no problem." Eddie replies.
My mom runs up to me. "Steven, are you okay?" She asks. "Yeah, I'm alright." I respond. "I'm so sorry, honey." She says. "We should get going." I reply, getting in the van. Robin and Nancy get in too. Eddie looks back at my mom before sitting down next to me.
Eddie ~
Steve starts driving. "Are you-" "I'm fine." Steve interrupts Nancy. We ride in complete silence for the rest of the drive home. Steve parks and walks inside. I run after him. He tries to close the bedroom door but I stop him. "Eddie, please, just leave me alone." Steve says, weakly. "Just let me in. We don't have to talk about anything if you don't want to. We can just sit." I reply.
"Please just let go." Steve responds. I sigh letting go of the door. It immediately shuts in my face. "Is he okay?" Robin asks, frantically. "I don't know." I reply, sitting down by the door. "This is all my fault. If I wouldn't have gone to the bathroom, this would have never happened. DAMNIT!" I yell. "Okay. Eddie, let's go on a drive. Robin, come here." Nancy says. They whisper something.
Nancy walks back over to me and grabs the keys to my van. We walk outside. "I... I should stay here. When Steve opens the door I need-" "Robin's got it. He'll be fine. Come on, Eddie." Nancy replies. I sigh and get into the van. She gets in next to me and starts driving. "When Steve gets upset, it's best to just leave him alone. It took me a while to understand that. Everytime he gets upset and you try to help, you two end up fighting.
That's not your fault. Steve... he basically raised himself. His parents were never around to teach him any different. He shuts everyone out. That's how he deals with stress." Nancy explains. "But, if I give him space, then he won't have anyone to talk to. He'll be alone." I reply.
"Being alone just gives him time to think." Nancy responds. "I really do try to help him. It's just hard sometimes. Like, he won't accept my help. I feel terrible leaving Steve by himself." I say.
"That's just how Steve is. You can't feel like it's your fault, because it isn't." Nancy assures me.
