Steve ~
I wake up to the sunlight beaming through Eddie's window. Eddie is till asleep. I start to put my shoes and and Eddie grabs my arm. "Five more minutesss." He replies, pulling me back into the bed. "Eddie! Come on we have to get up." I reply.
He still had his eyes closed. He opened them and immediately put a hand in front of his eyes. "COME ON EDDIEEEE." I say, pulling him off of the bed. "I'm up, I'm up, Harrington. Jeez." He replies, still holding onto my hand and, rubbing his eyes with the other.
Eddie stumbles over to his shoes and slides them on before, opening the door for me. "For you, king Steve." He says, playfully bowing. "You're weird Munson." I reply, walking out. I open the front door for him. He looks at me disappointed.
"What? You opened the door for me, so I gotta open the door for you." I say while he sighs. He rolls his eyes and walks to the van door. I shut the trailer foor and walk to the van. He runs in front of me and opens my door for me.
I couldn't help but smile. His little grin was contagious. I got in and he shut my door. He walked to the driver side and got in. "So, where are we going?" Eddie asked. "We could.. pick the kittens up?" I ask, looking out of the window. "Okay... Something on your mind?" He asks, starting to drive. "It's just.. I'm still having a hard time believing that my dad is alive. I mean, I thought he was dead! And, he just appears one day? I mean like, who does that? It's just all so messed up." I reply, rolling my window down.
"Yeah." Eddie replies. "And the worst part is, that I feel like it's my fault. Like, I put me and mom through that." I say, tears starting to form in my eyes. "I know that wasn't the reason, Steve. He loves you a lot. I'm not justifying what he did, I'm just saying, I know it's not your fault." Eddie responds, grabbing my hand.
He parks in the driveway. "It just doesn't make any sense! Why would he do that?" I exclaim getting out and walking to the door. Eddie opens the door for me. "Hey! I said I was-" I stop talking when I see my parents talking to the party on the couch.
"You have got to be kidding me! Really?" I yell, walking towards them. "Steven?" My dad asks. "Eddie, get them outside." I say, getting in my dad's face. "Steve-" "Please." I add. He takes them outside. "What do you think you're doing?" I ask, making eye contact with him. "Steven, they just came by and they saw me. We tried-" "We? No. You." My mom says, crossing her arms. "You knew about it- oh." My dad stopped himself. I look over to my mom.
"We had a funeral. A FUNERAL! AND, YOU KNEW ABOUT IT THE WHOLE TIME? LET'S ALL GIVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR THE WORLD'S WORST PARENTS!" I yell, clapping. "Steven-" "NO. No. Get away from me." I say, walking to the door.
I feel a hand wrap around my wrist. I turn around and see my dad. I push him and he falls to the floor. I grab the kittens and pack some clothes into a suitcase. I throw Eddie's guitar on my back and put the kittens into the cat carrier. I grab the suitcase and the carrier and walk past my parents.
"Don't worry. You won't ever see me again. So you don't have to fake your death again." I yell, walking out of the door and setting the carrier into the van. I put the box in the back, along with Eddie's guitar and I start walking. "Steve?" Eddie asks, running after me.
"Steve!" He yells, walking next to me. "I-I grabbed your guitar um... I packed some of our clothes into a suitcase. The cats are in the van. That's all I could get." I say, choking on my tears. "Steve." Eddie replies, stepping in front of me and pulling me into a hug.
Eddie ~
He looks up at me and grabs my hand. We start running back to his house. "Where are we going?" I ask, following him. We walk to the porch and he opens the door. "So, it's true right? You faked dying, so you could get away? From everyone? Well, let me tell you something." Steve gets in his dad's face.
I try to pull him away but he won't budge. "If you wanted to get away from me that bad, you could have said so. I would've left a long time ago. You know what that tells me? It tells me that you'd rather die, then spend some time around your kid. You're a coward." Steve exclaims, getting closer and closer to his dad.
Steve was right. Everything he said was true. "Steve, come on. Let's go." I say, gently pulling him away. He grabbed my arm and we started walking. He sat down in the van and held Lady. I sat down next to him. "Are you okay?" He shook his head and put Lady back into the carrier. He starts to cry. I wrap my arms around him and he rests his head on my chest.
"Why am I crying?! Ugh!" Steve says, wiping the tears off of his cheeks. I laugh a little. "Do you wanna go?" I ask. "Yeah. So um... Where are we going to stay?" Steve asks, rubbing his nose. "I don't know, Harrington. I don't know." I reply, looking at him with a smile.
