chapter 34: bad idea

Steve ~
I walk over to the gate and look back at Eddie one last time. He nods. I walk in with Max and El. "Okay, so here's how this is going to go: First, El you're gonna go in there and hold him still. Max, You're back up. I'm gonna cut his head off." I say while we walk to the Creele house. "Oh and Max, if anything goes wrong I mean anything, you go and you find them." I add, looking over at Max. "Okay. But, nothing's going to go wrong." Max replies.

"We don't know that." I respond, stopping and looking up at the Creele house. "You two ready?" I ask. They both nod. We walk inside, jumping over vines. "This place is a hive mind, you step on one, you step on them all. Be careful." I whisper, helping the girls step over the vines. We get to the top of the stairs. We start walking up to the attic and I stop.

"Okay, El you're gonna walk up first, hold him in the air. Max, stay right here, and if anything bad happens-" "Go get the rest of them, I know, I know. Just, don't do anything stupid, Steve." Max interrupts me. "Okay." I reply, giving El a nod. She walks up and starts holding him in the air.

I run up and chop his arm off. He wails in pain. I go to swing at his head but then it gets taken out of my hands by a vine. They wrap around my wrists and I get thrown against a wall. Tears start rolling down my cheeks. "GO MAX!" I exclaim, while vines wrap around my ankles. He throws El against a wall. "ARE YOU OKAY EL?!" I ask, trying to break free from his vines. "I-I think so." She replies, staring at me.

She closes her eyes and the vines start to release her. Vecna walks up to me. "That was my good hand. I'll deal with you in a second." He says, walking away. Vines start wrapping around my throat. I gasp for air and start choking.

Eddie ~
We're all walking and then I see Max running towards us. "COME ON!" She yells running towards that creepy house. "What happened?!" I yell, running after her. "It's Steve and El!" She screams. I start running faster. I run into the house and up the stairs. I run to the attic and see Steve on the wall. I grab his axe and start swinging at the vines.

I feel something wrapping around my hand. The next thing I know, I'm pinned against a wall, with a vine wrapping around my neck. El and Vecna are still fighting and Robin is trying to break me and Steve free. I look over at Steve and see that his eyes are closed. I start to choke. My eyes water.

"I'M GONNA GET YOU TWO OUT!" Robin exclaims, trying to rip the vines from their tight grip.

I can't breathe. My eyes close.

Robin ~
I see Eddie's eyes close. Nancy comes over to help me pry the vines from them. "WE NEED HELP!" I exclaim. All of the sudden, the vines release and Eddie and Steve drop into the floor. I put my finger under Steve's nose to see if he's still breathing. He's not. El walks over and looks at me. "He's not breathing?" She asks.

I shake my head, holding back tears. I place my finger under Eddie's nose. He's not either. El places her hand on Steve's chest and closes her eyes. "OH GOD, NEITHER OF THEM ARE BREATHING. DO NOT DIE ON ME! DON'T DIE!" I exclaim.

Nancy starts doing CPR on Eddie. I sit there, looking at their blue lips. I hear a gasp. I look over to Steve and see his chest rise. El walks over to Eddie and Nancy takes her hands off and El puts one of her hands on his chest. I scoot over to Steve and grab his hand.

"Steve? Steve can you hear me? Please." I say, tears flooding my eyes. "Help Robin pick Steve up. Get him to a hospital." Nancy says to the kids. They help me carry him to the gate. "Don't worry Steve, you're gonna be just fine." Dustin says while we set him in the back of my car.

"Hurry up, get in!" I exclaim. Dustin sits next to Steve's limp body, while max sits up front next to me. The rest of the kids go back in to help Eddie. I start driving to the hospital. "Is he still breathing?" I ask, glancing back at Steve. "Um... Yeah he is. His lips aren't blue anymore." Dustin replies, looking at Steve. I park in the hospital parking lot and, the kids help me pick Steve up. We bring him inside and they look at us.

They put him on one of those beds with the wheels and took him back. I started pacing. I keep seeing Steve's dead body. What if El can't bring Eddie back? Steve's heart would be shattered. What if they can't get him here? What if- my thoughts get interupted by someone calling my name. "Robin!" Max yells. "W-what?" I ask, disoriented. "There's a code blue. Do you think it's him?" She asks. "I- I don't know. Oh god. What if it is him? What do we do?" I ask, panicking.

"Robin chill out. I don't think it was him." Dustin says, placing a hand on my shoulder. Max and Dustin sat me down and I started thinking again. They told each other not to die, and they both did. Steve's my best friend. What if he does die again? What if one of them lives and the other one doesn't. A doctor stood in front of us.

I looked up at him. "Would you like to see him?" He asked. We all nod and the doctor takes us to a room. "He should wake up in a few minutes." The doctor assured us, closing the door. I sat down in the chair next to him, holding his hand. I feel like I'm going to pass out. My heart's racing. What if he doesn't wake up?

"He's okay, Robin." Max assures me.
