Fenrir in the 501st

Rematch

I wake up earlier then usual. The sun has still not risin yet. I go grab my morning coffee and enjoy it under the stars that are still around. I should tune up everyone's unit today since I have so much free time right now.

I walk down to the hanger and start working on everyone's unit. Some are in better shape then the others, I really let myself slip if the are this worn. Well Nippa's unit is an exception. It didn't take the long for me to tune up the units. Only one unit in particular I had to actually fix, not going to point fingers.

I grab a near by rag and clean off my hands as I walk out of the hanger. Just as I open the door to leave the hanger the maintenance crew open the hanger door and roll in a unit launch stand. I close the door and walk over to them.

Ashley - ' New unit? '

That one maintenance guy - ' Yeah, it was rushed over, since the operation is going to begin soon. '

Ashley - ' Right, operation Freya. I may be around for that operation or head back to my old unit, depends how the girls have it here. So you have anything else for me or this is just how its going now, since my uncle. '

That one maintenance guy- ' Well I since I gave testimony in the court, and since im pretty good at delivering letters, without people noticing. Galland has decided that I work for her now. On other notes I do have three letters for you. '

I put out my hand to obtain said letters. He looks both ways before placing them on my hand.

That one maintenance guy - ' And thats all, I best be going. '

He tips his hat and walks off blending back into the rest of the maintenance crew. I turn to go back to my room  and read the letters.

Once in my room I open the first letter. Its from Galland. Its about her pulling some strings to quickly establish the 501st if something were to happen and I should be ready at any moment to join again. I'll be in Romania before the call goes out. Some pasta would be nice. Maybe they got some non-alcoholic grape juice to go with the meal.

I open the second letter. Its from an Air Marshal, hmmm. Alright. So it's saying I'm to join the train going to Kevala base. They are merging the cargo and passenger carts to save on time. That feels wrong some how, Oh well. Some units will be placed in specialized launch systems for taking off from the train cart. I don't know what they are planning but good on them.

I open the third letter. Its Minna, and wow there are a lot of colorful words in here. When I get to the new base Im definitely in for a rough time. I think I'll be too happy to care.

As I finish reading the last letter, the alarm goes off and I see everyone running to their units. They all take off and form up as they leave. I look back to the unit that just got in. It's a new spitfire model. I wall over to in and equip it. I lazy check over the response and feel of the unit before revving it up and taking off. I keep low to the ground avoiding radar and to keep my speed quick to reach the area of battle. Over the radio I hear the girl aghast that the Neuroi they killed last time is back.

As I reach the battlefield I see them shoot the core and they start celebrating. I push my unit and fly past all of them.

Ashley - ' It's  not over yet. '

The girls all let out confused and questioning sounds. As I get closer to the falling fragments of Neuroi it stops falling and starts healing its self.

I shoot at it where the core is located slowing the healing process down. I dodge beams from it now operational beam focoi.

Ashley - ' One of you Karibuchi's tell me where the true core is! '

Everyone is still stunned  the the Neuroi came back to life, the first to break from their trance is Hikari and she slowly catches up to me. As she get closer I stop dodging less and use my shield to protect her as we get closer to it.

Ashley - ' Ill get you close then tell me where the core is. '

Hikari - ' Got it. '

As we fly closer to the Neuroi, the other break out of the stupor and join in the fight. Takami use she eye to try and find the true core but can't see it. She continues to fight and looks conflicted if she should use her absolute eye. The drone type Neuroi are starting to swarm everywhere now. It getting harder for the other to get closer. I slow down so I can better cover Hikari. 

We finally make it to the Neuroi and Hikari jumps at it and then points out the core. I unload all the rest of the ammunition in my gun and kill the Neuroi. I quickly reload and wait to see if we really killed the Neuroi.  After a few minutes of waiting, Its obvious that the Neuroi is now dead. I turn to the other who have now come closer and also waited here.

Krupinski - ' Wow, this is the first time I seen you fly in combat. How did you know it was going to regenerate? '

I lightly relax now that its dead and feel some mental exertion from being in a state of combat. At least this is better then being  berserk when flying.

Ashley - ' Just a gut feeling. '

Rall looks at me strangely, the signals everyone that we are headding back.

The flight back was uneventful, just being barraged with questions on how I realized that it regenerated. I responded with the actions the Neuroi have been taking of late and had a feeling that this Neuroi was to normal . The conversation ended there, as we land back at base.
