Btw, these are only facts about Ralph's role as Johnny Cade / The Outsiders.

1. "The Outsiders" was the first book Ralph ever read without being told to read it. He read it in 7th grade.

2. Ralph said he really wanted to play Johnny Cade because he could relate to him. He said in an interview that "he was kind of the smallest guy in his class," which compares to Johnny, who was the tag-along and little kid of the group.

3. Francis Ford Coppola, the director of the film "The Outsiders" told Ralph that he was too innocent to play the role of Johnny, who was born into an abusive household and had to endure tons of stuff all his life. To prove to the director he was fit for the role of Johnny, Ralph slept on newspapers an entire night, just like Johnny did. He recalls, "It was not fun."

4. Even though Ponyboy and Johnny are best friends in the film and the book, off set, the two did not get along very well. One instance of this was when C Thomas Howell (Pony) wanted to beat his score in PacMan, but Ralph Macchio (Johnny) insisted they should practice their lines instead. There was a five-year age difference, so that could have been the reason why they weren't the best of friends.

5. Ralph was once asked, "Who is your favorite character that you have played?" and he responded with, "Johnny from the Outsiders, because that was the role I really wanted and I booked it. Johnny has a special place in my heart."

6. He's a great spooner. C Thomas Howell (Pony) was once asked about his experience of cuddling with Ralph, and he said Ralph was a great spooner.
