"Again initiate" Eric barked out causing you to flinch. It had already been a long day with training, but it was made even worse when Eric caught you rolling your eyes at him. It was an honest mistake; something you always did and Eric wasn't too happy about it. And so, here you were, doing extra training late into the evening with him as your 'punishment'.

Your arms burned and your legs felt weak as you continued to punch the bag. Each time Eric yelling at you or raising your voice it made you flinch; memories of back home rushing back to you. Naturally, your test results came back Amity, but you couldn't stay there any longer; not with your parents and how badly they treated you. Cando and Erudite were not even in question; you lied all the time to save yourself from your parents and you weren't a genius. That left only Abnegation and Dauntless. In the end, you chose Dauntless because you wanted to fight back, never having the chance to when you were younger. You wanted to be able to stand up for yourself, but you were soon learning that it was a lot more challenging than you thought.

Eric groaned out in annoyance as he stalked towards you. "You're still doing it wrong initiate!" You felt him come up behind you and you cowered in response; his hand gripping your arm, not hard, and you let out a whimper. He quickly removed his hand from your arm. "I didn't even grab you hard. What the hell is wrong with you? If you can't manage this, how the hell are you going to manage hand to hand fighting?"

Lowering your head, you tried to fight back the tears. You wanted to prove to Eric, to your parents, and to yourself that you could do this. But memories from your past kept blocking you from moving forward.

"I'm...I'm sorry. It's just...my...my past...." You trailed off, not even finding the words to say. Eric bent down so he could look at your face; your eyes connecting with his for a mere moment. When he glanced at your face, his eyes softened with curiosity. He could see the hurt, the sadness in your eyes but he didn't know what caused it.

He straightened his back; his large frame towering over you. "Initiate look at me" he declared more gently this time. Slowly, you lifted your head up to meet his gaze. His face was still soft and he didn't have his usual permanent scowl attached to his face. No, this was different; this was a different side of Eric you had never seen before. "Is everything alright? You can talk to me. I am a Leader after all. I know I come off intimidating, but that's mainly to scare the initiates in training."

You had to hold back another instinctual eye roll as you didn't want to get more punishments. Shaking your head rapidly, you wiped your tears away. "No. No I'm ok, just tired" you whispered out.
