72. Disapproving Family

Imagine: Being in love with Eric, but your family doesn't accept it.

You walk around your bedroom family's apartment, you were a Dauntless-born, so after initiation was over, you didn't have to worry about getting your own place, you were able to stay with them. Well, you were forced to stay with them; your father was a Dauntless leader, and a very strict person. Your father also hated the youngest leader, Eric. Something neither he, nor the rest of your family knew was that you and Eric had been dating since initiation. You loved him, and he loved you.

But of course you could never tell your family, not your mother, not your brothers, and definitely not your father. You couldn't even mention Eric around them, because there was a danger of accidently revealing your secret to someone. You knew if they found out, they'd disown you and there was nothing you could do about it except for constantly lying to them.

'She loved her // like that

But telling her family? They might snap

So confined she couldn't confide

She was playing girl games, offline

She had an answer, but she didn't ask for this

Every little chit chat was a massive risk

If she discussed it they'd be disgusted

Disown her and that'd be disastrous

She knew that it wasn't their fault, they were brainwashed

They believed some crazy things

It'd cause her a smorgasbord of disorders

If she listened to what they would think

They thought that she was smiling, but they misidentified

Because the clenching of her teeth was just her biting on the lie'

You knew that it would be okay, you had Eric, and there was nothing wrong with you, the only reason they didn't accept Eric, was because he was an ex-Erudite, your family was very old-fashioned, and they were still living in the past.

'It's gonna be ok, it's gonna be ok

This issue is temporary so attempt to wait for one - more - day

There's nothing wrong with you, it's them - they're just backwards

You're in the future, they're in the past

And they would abuse you if they knew the facts about it'

Your parents may not accept the real you, but your friends do, and so does Eric. You just need to keep holding on until, you're able secure a proper place in Dauntless, until your job is secure, until you're able to be independent, and move out of your parent's place.

Until you find the friends who'll support you

Until you find a place you feel secure, you need to

HOLD ON

Until you're independent

Wherever in the spectrum you are'

Everything will eventually be alright. Though your family doesn't except you now, doesn't mean you can't love who you want to love.
